Location: Racine, Wi | Hey all, I was lucky enough last fall to "pull" the front bracket off of my boat. I turned a little tight backing into the driveway, and it stripped the screws out of the wood. I have seen some things in the hardware store for filling the holes and redrilling to get the screws to hold once again. Any recommendations? Should I use epoxy, or some other material that will bond with the wood, so I can redrill and remount the plate? Any help for a disfunctional handyman would be appreciated. I don't have another spot in the boat to mount it, so I need to find a fix for the holes in it already. |

| If your motor has a quick release bracket(or not...), I wouldn't waste the time filling in the holes and re-drilling the wood. If you can reach under the bow deck a ways, you can drill through the rest of the wood panel, go and get the same diameter (or just a smidgen smaller) stainless steel bolts, long enough to go through the mounting plate, plywood etc, flat washers, and lock-nuts. Re-mount with those and you should be all set.

Location: Plainfield IL | If you are able to remove a bracket from the bow where your locator or tm wiring and get your hand under the bow I would add a stainless steel plate under the fiberglass. Drill the holes in the steel to match your TM mount and run bolts through the top cap and the steel plate. This will help to reinforce the whole tm and you wont get spider cracks from 1 of your mounting bolts.

The only problem, (and maybe it's not even a problem if I can get my skinny hand under the bow) Is that on the Tuffy, it has that Mounting block that it is installed on, and it is very difficult to get a bolt to work on that. (at least as far as I know) I have the quick release plate on their, so if I can get that remounted, the tm just slides into that. Keep em coming. The season is almost here.

| Buy a product called akemi #7 . This is a Polyester bonding compound with BPO Hardner. I use it to repair molds and Fiberglass. If you worried about strength add some choppedstrands or milled fibers to strengthen. The idea of the plate I would definatley do. Its a added safety net and you spread the span of impact out when you do this. |

| Sorry to hear about your bad luck, But you did not say what model TUFFY boat you own!! I have seen boat owners drill a 4"hole in the bow cap and install a cover over the hole, this allows for easy access to the bolts on the underside of your trolling motor mounting bracket for ease of installation or repairs,or like was suggested, the use of washers,nuts or bolts on the bottom side. I hope this helps!!!! |

I do most of my Musky fishing in Vilas county. I really like Big Sand, Ballard and some of the small lakes in that area.
I talked to my buddy about the mounting of his trolling motor. He drilled his holes all the way through the block and the deck. He used very long bolts with washers and nuts. He could not get stainless bolts and nuts that long though. He took the panel out for the trolling motor plug and got his hand in there to put the nuts on and hold them. It's a two man operation.
We mounted the trolling motor on my Esox Magnum with bolts, washers and nuts too. We took that panel out and used a Sawsall to make the opening larger and then had a person with a small arm hold the nuts from the back side. If you use locking nuts you won't have to worry about it again. Hope this helps.
