Posts: 108 Location: Toronto, ON | Looking for a new rod and a friend of mine suggested looking at All Star Rods (Big Game Series) vs. St. Croix Premier and the new Shimano Compre's. I've read lots of good posts/reviews on them but I've also read on another site something to the effect that they are no longer producing musky rods as good as before. Please advise and thank you. It's not that the rods aren't as good as before. The company was bought by Shakepear. So what's out there now is all your gonna find. They just discontinued the line of biggame series ods.

Posts: 373 Location: Huber Heights, Ohio | Just called Smokey's and they only have a few Allstars left at 90.00. The bad thing is there is no warranty on any Big Game rod, that sucks as I have 3 of them. They will replace with a Big Boy rod which is a bass rod.

Location: Contrarian Island | I wouldn't be too concerned about not having a warranty...I have 8 All Stars and I bought them right when guys first started musky fishing when they were called the Western Inshore series...never had any of them break...and I believe they are better rods than St Croix Premiers..just my opinion.... Posts: 2894 Location: Yahara River Chain | I got to agree with msky hnr. They are much better rod than any Croix I ever owned. I put way more pressure on a All Star than I ever did with a Croix. Had a Croix Preimer shatter on me when I had a 50 hit. And as far as no more being made, here is what I got back from them when I asked about who bought them out and what happens to the warrentee and where are the blanks made: "Gerard Thank you for your loyal support. All Star Rods was purchased by Shakespeare Fishing Tackle , a division of K2, Inc. in May 04. All warranties are still in effect. Refresher: mail in warranty card at time of purchase, retain owner’s portion, if rod breaks due to manufacturing defect mail the rod, owner’s portion of the card plus $15.00 for shipping to All Star Service Center, 3801 Westmore Drive, Columbia, SC 29223. All Star blanks and finished rods are built in Houston, TX. The All Star Service Guide" Matt where did you hear that they were no longer being made? Edited by muskie! nut 2/27/2005 6:19 AM
