Posts: 2024 | I'd buy land on Lac Seul or LOTW as a "weekend" getaway and real property on Mille Lacs or near Brainerd.

Well if money were no object I would have a place on an Island in the NW Angle of LOTW, a place in Montreal, a place on Vermilion, a place in IN near North Webster, a place in Green Bay, and a place on LCO near Hayward, but that is just me. Big mojo required to win the lottery!

MN... If you're in Milw. area you can be in Mille Lacs area 7 hours give or take a few minutes depending on route/traffic. If you location to your work is not an issue... Move to MN, root for the Packers, and have the best of both worlds.

Posts: 1185 Location: Wishin I Was Fishin' | I would by a place on Crab Lake. I don't feel it is realistic to buy in MN or Canada unless you have a float plane. This property would be one you would want to use for more then just your summer vacation time. A long drive would make 3 day weekends even too short.

Posts: 686 Location: Tomahawk, Wisconsin | Do you want a very realistic shot at a 50 something every time out on the water?????? I would look into a cabin in Minnesota and not necessarily on one of the bigger lakes, do your homework.

IF MONEY WASN'T AN ISSUE I'D HAVE A CABIN ON EVERY BODY OF WATER THAT HAD TROPHY CLASS FISH, AND A FLOAT PLANE TO TAKE ME WHERE I WANTED TO GO, AND WHY NOT BUILD MY OWN MUSKIE LAKE IN THE MIDDLE OF A FEILD SOMEWHERE JUST FOR ME, WOULD BE NICE, BUT NOT GOING TO HAPPEN

Posts: 2515 Location: Waukesha & Land O Lakes, WI | So far, a majority says..."LOTW's or Minnestota".....how far of a drive is that from Southern Wisconsin??? 7-8 hours on a friday night after work means you get there at what time?? 2:30-4am with stops for dinner, gas and potty? Now how much fishing are you going to get in when you have to leave at 2pm Sunday to be home by 10-12 that night to get up for work. I make that drive to NE Wisconsin every other weekend, it's 4.5 hrs to my place and its a looooong drive. My advice is Norther Wisconsin. Buying land is cheapest, buying off water property with a home isn't that bad because you leave your fishing options open. Buying a lake home is a big investment , taxes never go down up there. I find myself trailering less and less because its so easy just to jump in the boat and lower the Shore Station than it is to move from lake to lake like I used to. If you have any questions about NE Wisconsin, drop me a message, I'll try to help you.

I have to agree with Gander. Who wants to drive 15 hours every weekend? I sure dont. I would think about living in the Park falls\Tomahawk area. You can go to either fish Vilas and Oneida Counties or cruise over to the Hayward area in an hour \hour and a half tops. You could also fish the Wisconsin River. I always thought that living in Wausau or somewhere a bit North of Wausau would be about the best bet for positioning yourself. Imagine fishing on Sunday morning when the fish begin to bite knowing you have to drive 8 hours home?

Posts: 714 Location: Rhinelander, WI | With money not being an issue, I would have to go down a similar road as Reef Hawg. Give me an Island on LOTW and a Island on Eagle both places would have a fully loaded Ranger 620 ready to go at all times. Then give me a Land/Sea plane that I can keep at the Rhinelander Airport and I'm head to heaven every weekend. Or if money is really not an issue every other week. O-yea don’t forget a place south for fishing during the winter months. The plane is key though as it makes all the travel more reasonable. I also might explore some other lakes and rivers as long as I can fly into a good resort. Nail A Pig! Mike Attachments ---------------- nav_03_13_01_02.bmp (67KB - 68 downloads)

Location: The Yahara Chain | Minnesota or LOTW would be to far to drive for the weekend. Sawyer or Oneida counties would be a realistic drive. Willy you know what lake you should do it on. Hey but with all of your money why don't you just buy Canada.

Posts: 2037 Location: lansing, il | money no object? im going to a deep clear vilas county lake. its a 6-7 hr ride. but worth every minute. that is about as far as i can justify driving for a long weekend, anything more is just too much driving for me!

Posts: 5161 | I think you need 3 fishing places.First you need a place in the Leech/Cass Area.Second you need a place by Cave Run.Third which most of you probably have not thought of when the water is hard or fish just are not being caught maybe Jan-March you need a place in San Diego California Area where there have been many bass caught up to 21 pounds lately.Bill

Posts: 578 Location: Sheboygan Falls, WI | Well, if money was not an issue, then I would stay living right where I am at. Right in the heart of musky country in northern Wisconsin. No need to buy any more land. Why buy land when you can rent a dock or own a house boat? Like was stated, "If money was not an issue...", I would stay here and have a plane parked at the Rhinelander airport with a few boats strategically placed in Minnesota and Canada. I would hire a pilot that musky fished as well so they would have a vested interest in my travels. This way I would have the best of ALL worlds. Just another spin on things. Chuck

Posts: 2752 Location: Mauston, Wisconsin | Let's see- ~ $3000.00 would put me on a WR class fishery for a full month. Over ten years ~ $45k cost including lodging before flyout. Doesn't really make sense to buy land. However, if money wasn't an issue & I were filthy rich, I'd buy the lake & stay there year round. Of course I might have to import some entertainment for the winter months, i.e., my wife would never agree to NW Ontario in the winter. Should have gotten a prenuptual on that one!!! Have fun! Posts: 1916 Location: Greenfield, WI | I would be on North Twin in Vilas County, WI. It is big enough and has varied enough structure that I can fish it for a long time without hitting the same water twice. The water quality is very good. The eagles, ospreys, mergansers, and loons abound. The shoreline is wild enough to keep the upnorth feel intact. It has enough creature comforts to keep the non-fishermen in the family happy too, which directly affects the overall experience for me! If my wife can be happy, which doesn't take much after all she is with me, then my time can be that much better in the long haul! Edited by Steve Van Lieshout 2/28/2005 5:28 PM
