Like many of us, I'm going to Cave Run in the Spring. If the weather cooperates, I'll be throwing rattlin shads or rat-l-traps and catching muskies. The preferred technique for the spring season at Cave Run.

Last year, caught a cold front which shut the muskies down. 35 degree air temps with muddy water made the fishing extremely slow. One morning it was even snowing!

What techniues do you guys suggest for cold front spring muskies at Cave Run? Twitching, jerks, plastics? What's the techique to save the spring cold front?

Thanks in advance...

Johnny B

The PMTT was won there last April with a jig. Legend has it the winning team was seen with the In-Fisherman article about jigging for muskies on the front seat of the pickup truck.

I"ve heard they like jigs too. Never tried it myself. I'd go with the sledge.

Thanks for the responses guys. Here's my game plan.

Start off with Rattling Shads and hopefully find active fish.

If that doesn't work, I'll slow down and fish the same areas with a jerkbait. I have some of the larger, 5 inch of so, Lucky Craft Pointers. These are my favorite bass jerkbaits. So, I'm planning on trying the pointers for Cave Run muskies.

If that doesn't work, it's traditional musky jerkbait time. Manta, Sq. Burt, Jerko, Squirko, maybe the new Seducer.b

Finally, it's plastics time. Kilr Eel, Tiger tube, JMac with Salt Shaker.

I'm getting hung up thinking about muddy water. I typically like to use baits that rattle when I'm fishing muddy water. Most of the plastics are big and move water but don't rattle. Hum...

Let me know what you guys think....
