You probably shouldn't mention beans and fish in the same sentence. I fished it about 5 years ago for and hour and half a got one 30 incher. The structure is impressive and those stockers should be getting to upper forties. If I'm like most other guys I'd rather drive a bit more and go to Vermilion. What did you hear MN muskie?

we "WERE' there this was 03,,,the weds after opener,,5 days into the season,,,this lake is really close to Duluth a pretty big town,,We were the only muskie boat on the lake "wow",,,so we figured well everybody will come after work of course musky season just started so people want to be out,,Nobody came!!!!,,,I know why,,we never saw a fish,,we caught 3 of the skinnyest scrawny looking northerns you ever saw,,,Crazy part is we saw "two" weeds in the lake the whole day,,People told us that was a low water year but we very rarely go to a musky lake when we cant at least get a follow!!! average day no cold front,,,I guess based on that we figure why drive past the exit to Mile Lacs or stop just an hour short of Vermillion to give it a second try

You must have read the same page in the MN musky book that I did. Fished it twice this past season on the way to V, with poor results. I did not see a fish in two days the first time. Caught a 38" the second trip and saw one in the lower 40" range. I talked to several dudes who have property on the lake, and fish it for muskies, and they suspect many fish are going through the dam into the river below and heading into the St. Louis River(which may just be the next big thing from what I hear) when they drop the water so much. There are years that island lake drops over 15 feet from normal. People say there are times that they cannot even boat from their properties due to low levels. Not sure why this is. That said, most I talked to and from what i experienced, give it a few more years....I'll stay on 53 for now and head on up to V and lakes associtated with it, where we did well last year.

I know my buddy who has a cabin on this lake will be glad to hear all the negative publicity you guys are giving it.

The lake is very finicky depending on time of year.

He'd be happy to know you stop at Mille Lacs or continue on to The Big V

Dang!! I met a guy that had a place out there that gave me his name and number(lost it) and was going to show me around his favorite spots on the river(where he fishes most of the time) near duluth this next year. Wish I could remember it.
