Posts: 2894 Location: Yahara River Chain | Hey, Beaver you got it mostly right. They were made by Tacklemaster by lure maker Grant Manhart in the mid-to late 80s. He stated out making a badger coppertail out of maple, but the huge buzz type blade kept it on top. I will post that later. Here's the correct names of the ones above. sworrall was right, you guys know yer lures. Edited by muskie! nut 2/15/2005 3:31 PM Attachments ---------------- ![]()

OK you found me! I am still making lures....in my spare time, trying to catch the South Dakota record in Amsden Lake, 28 miles from Aberdeen. She has been caught once and released! (in the mid 40 lbs) Chasing Muskies just isn't what it used to be now that my collaborator on the lures and life in general is gone beyond...that would be Bill Tutt of the famous Flambeau Flowage. I have one or two pickle buckets full of painted bodies, drilled through for a wire, mostly perch and black of the small teardrop bodies from the Surf -O Reno style, and a few of the coppertail longer bodies, left...any bidders? Mr. Tutt certainly knew the value of a quiet surface bait. My WI fishing buddy and I made a pilgrimage to see his water and fish with him not knowing that his health status was declining. Never got to fish with him but did get to talk to him about his water, and Larry Ramsell showed that same week we were there, and we learned some interesting stuff. I made, over time, a bunch of surforeno type bodies, and the limiting factor in design quickly becomes apparent, getting the spinners to stand up without the little rivet or whatever they used to use through the center. If they didn't stand, it was nearly impossible to get them to spin on both ends. I never was able to soder the stainless steel, but super glued a few spinners to get a 4 blade design, and that would spin, but it would not stay together. I had some problem with the buzzer blades wanting to swim off to one side or the other. Nothing like a perfect surforeno before it gets eaten a few times. How did you do perfecting your baits? I never used one, they look pretty balanced.

Posts: 2894 Location: Yahara River Chain | Well, Grant it's certainly good to hear from you. We, in the Capital City Muskies Inc have wondered where you ended up. I talked to Woody today and mentioned that I posted your baits asking if anyone could guess. Both he & I were surprised that the Beaver was able to come up with answer and so quickly. As for the sale of those bait bodies, I still have two of your lures in the package yet. I did lose one on the Chip a few years back, but with the power lines - no more. Good luck trying to get the new SD state record!!!!!! If you get a chance please email me.

Posts: 4266 | I still have 4 of the lures. A couple of the Surf Tail Badgers and a couple of the Buzzin'Badgers. One black and one perch of each. One of the best calm water lures that I ever used. Beaver PS, when Becky and I first started fishing together, the very first lures that she bought were a Cobbs, a Reef Hawg and a Surftail Badger and a Buzztail Badger. We bought the last 4 that they had hanging in a gas station/ bait shop on the north end of Eagle River. Edited by Beaver 2/15/2005 8:35 PM
