Just tried going to the chat room only to find it will take me 45 mins to download java vm. I’ll do that at work. So here were my questions I was going to ask Dave:

Hello Dave, I’ve had a place on the Chip for a couple of years now and have been fishing it for over 10, and I have never seen her in the winter months during draw down. Are there many spots I'd learn about if I did some exploring now?

How far does the water level drop?

Is it safe to drive a four wheeler everywhere?

Thanks

nxtwrldrcd,

Sorry you missed the chat. Everybody was talking about you!

The Chip is really amazing to see when the water is drawn down. Since so many of the major bars are shallow, even a 6 foot draw down exposes them. When the water is down 6 to 8 feet, you can see nearly all of the shallower structures, including the 'name' bars, such as Pete's, Flemings, Church, Cranberries, Cletchers, etc.

They used to take the level down 12 to 13 feet, and one year they took it down about 20 feet to work on the dam. The last few years the draw down has been less. Last year, it couldn't have been more than 6 feet. The best time to look around is towards spring. During the winter, the water level is down, but it's hard to see the shapes of the bars from any distance. Everything is white, and it's hard to see contour. In spring, the tops of the bars melt off and they stand out plainly.

As to ice safety, it's never safe! The marked snowmobile trails are OK, but once you're off them, you're on your own. Lots of current areas out there. Drop me an e-mail, I can direct you to some safer areas, but no gaurantees.

Good Fishing, Dave Dorazio

LOL Mike! I've only seen Survivor twice...he lives about 2.5 hrs west of here from what I understand + appears to be a real hoot! I usually watch the Fox Sports Int'l channel....Surfers Journal during the afternoons + European soccer at night on digital cable. The pro soccer player has been down to stay w/ him + maybe another contestant or 2....I'll have to try to remember to try + watch it next time....maybe I'll grow a beard! Got a scanner for Christmas + I'll send some more pics soon...[:sun:]
