What do you do during the Winter when you just plain HAVE to do something Muskie? I mess around with my tackle, of which I have an abundance (ask Slamr) or sit pondering my snow covered 1690T. Winter. Hummmmmmmmmph!

I go purchasing. I don't shop, I purchase new baits and tackle.

Had the truck worked on today, then on the way home just bought a new Crain crank bait (like I need another bait), then sharpened the hooks immediately after arriving home (as I always do), then found a place for it in the Lakewood, then chatted on M1st about WI musky management, and then watched TNB with muskies being caught on the lakes around Longville MN. Open water in IN in a few weeks!

I think I have it the best down here in So. ILL. I was fishing this year already, and caught one when I was out on the first day.
There is no closed season down here, and I can still travel to MN, Canada, or out East later in the year.
Like the rest of us obsessed muskie chasers, I spend a bunch of time here and on the other boards, looking for that one little hint that can make all the differnce.
I have cleaned and oiled all the reels. Put new line on them, and straightned out the boxes.
I'm going to fish on Saturday, so I'll get the itch scratched pretty good.
You should think about taking a trip down south this spring to stretch out the season!

Like Rodney said, we can fish all winter here. I have not been out for two and a half weeks and I can't imagine being shut down for months. The fog kept me home yesterday, but I will be out today. I spend a lot of time here and at other sites gleaning information. Makes me look at things from different angles. Working on lures, learning things like casting plastic, new airbrush paints, GPS. You know, things to spend my money on. Later

This winter's been easy for me to not have the itch. I have so many projects keeping both my mind and hands busy; working on building cabinets in the garage, building a motor for the car and doing even more estensive restoration on the boat and modifications to the boat. I'm actually thinking I'm running out of time to finish these projects before the ice melts! DOH!

I go out to the garage and sit in the rig. I let about 20 minutes pass by just thinking of all the fish I've seen last season that I didn't catch. I don't think there's 1 day that passes during the winter that I don't think of a new and different bait to toss and how that will increase my chances. I do alot of bait fondling too, although the little lady would rather I fondle her. I say "Honey, if you could score me a winner this tourny season, I'd rub you too!"

Even when I'm out ice fishing, which is at least 2 days a week, I'm still thinking of what's waiting for me under the ice. I used to think fly fishing was a bad addiction, then I began fishing musky seriously!

I've picked up some of the new DVDs that are out this year.

Just watched Dick Pearson's "Muskies on the Shield" the other night. It was great, because that's as close as my wife will ever get to muskie fishing on the shield. She enjoyed it, 60 minutes wasn't too long, and it's a blast to watch.

Going to go through Saric and Heiting's new discs next.

Headed to little bay de noc in about 15 minutes for some walleye fishing. I love to ice fish nearly as much as i do my open water fishing. Pike are first and foremost on the list for icing, then eyes, and panners at the bottom of the list. Steelheadin' comes next and I cannot wait for it, then the walleye spawn, and then the smallies. Once the smallies start crackin the crank baits, its about time to sharpen the Reef Hawgs. Fishing is a year round sport, and i love every minute! Just wish it was not getting so warm. I want another month of pikin!

I spent last night finally figuring out why my CD player/radio didn't work all last season. It was a broken conection that would have taken two minutes to figure out in the summer in the sunlight, but who wants to dink around with that when there are fish to be caught. I also sharpened all my hooks about three times, taken apart every baitcasting reel that I have and oiled and cleaned, and I have put new line on about half of them. Four months until the season opens in MN--- At least we will be about to chase pike in May.

Make baits.

Speaking of which, I've perfected the "Muskie Treat" and will have a couple for sale soon. Stay tuned for details.

hopefully buy a new boat, sharpen hooks, tie more bucktails then I'll ever use, go the the gym so throwing those big baits won't kill me and count down the days till spring.
