Having fished on so many structurally diverse bodies of water the last 30 years,I've developed some real favorite "spots" on each type/individual of water. Each has it's own characteristics that make it special, some environmental and some sentimental. What are some of your favorites? You don't have to list the exact lake/location, just a description of the spot and what makes it so special.I know we can have a bunch but there has to be one that stands apart from the rest.Mine is a litttle bay on Da Woods.Hundreds of boats drive right by it each season.Weeds, rock, small island, slop, easy entry and exit for the fish during the migratory periods.Come in each season and some never leave.Big fish, little fish, and surprisingly(not so much)few pike.Go East Young Man.Or was it West?LOL!!!!One each.Reason?Big fish with family and friends in/on my Happy Place. Over the last 10 years I've mapped out more than 100 lakes (quit counting) and every lake has a #1. Each and every one also have the exact same thing in common. The best spots all lead from the shallows to the deepest water in the area!

Wabigoon. It's a bay at the face of Contac that has a current path dead center through a point and an island. Deep water necks down at the current point from the west, current heading east north east. The point is a current break, and the bay lays out so the current brushes the entire North facing weedline. The spot on the spot there is a little bay with a west face the current sluices through the west face strong enough to totally erode a 100' wide and at least 15' high island to GONE in under 20 years. A 5' 'trough' was created by the current. BIG muskies stage in the 2' to 3' off the edges running North and South on each side of the trough. This is the Hog Pen.

Over the years, I've boated so many fish from 48" to 54" there....and that's where I had the biggest fish of my trip going this year and caught one of the prettiest fish I've ever seen on a Wabull. This water isn't even close to what the map shows there. Over the years the 'look' has changed quite a bit. When I first started fishing the area, the island and shoreline was eroding, trees in the water everywhere. The really big fish were in the trees on the south face (north shore) of the bay on that current break and slot. Rarely did I ever see a fish around the island. As the island eroded to gone, weedlines developed on the north face leading edges where the island was, and the shoreline stabilized on the south face so the trees are now very old, and deteriorating. The really big fish I had going in there this year was in those old trees, but the one I caught and a couple more we were working were on the other side of the slot on north face where the island was.

I've got a spot that was "given" to us on LOTW, after I yelled the F-word so loud, they pinpointed where it came from then fished that spot (yeah, lost a monster) and afterward gave us this spot. Well, I can see why they liked it so much. On the map it doesn't look like much, just a few broken rock symbols. The spot has a small island/reef surrounded by deep water and BIG boulders. There is a deeper, weedy saddle connecting it to the larger main island. The shore of the big island has a weedbed about a cast length wide for about 200 yards. The weedbed terminates into a rocky shoreline with sparse weeds. This leads up to a 4' boulder field and LONG point. Going around the point is a small "cut" that is rimmed with reeds/boulders/and cabbage. Now, ask me if I've ever caught anything there and the answer is no. Have we had some real nice ones going in a short amount of time and ask me if I think that spot ALWAYS holds fish, I'd give you a definite yes on that one.

The other spot is down south. It's a timbered cove with great laydowns ranging from a single log to a log with a bunch of branches (the latter usually holds the fish). There are two coves back to back that look very similar. One has a small flat that always has baitfish and the backs of the coves are great in early fall.

Good topic!
