I really like my 7000 C3. The only complaint I have is that the anti-reverse slips a little to where it makes twitching baits nearly impossible. Also, it takes too long to engage the reel. I will make a small turn and hear it go "click," but the line keeps coming out. I have to continue until I hear a second "click" before it's fully engaged.

My question is does this sound like a reel in need of repair (have others had this problem?) and what other large 7000s work well? I've been looking at the Big Game Series and the 7000 HSN's. What's the difference? Also, which is the red one that Dick Pearson uses in his video? Anyone know?

They all have the non instant anti reverse, so will slap back a bit when you're twitching and the 2 stage re-engagement is right too. The HSN and HS models are 5.3:1 gear ratio, not sure if your 7000C3 is 4:1 or 5.3:1, other than that the colour is the only real difference (and possibly where they were made?). There have been various different coloured reels over the years, some of the red ones has brass bushings rather that the bearings of the C3 and HS models. The HSN is a newer model with a narrower spool and capacity similar to the 6500 series, but the winding power of the 7000.
