Posts: 576 Location: Germantown, WI | I know this topic has probably been up here before, but since i'm going to chicago tomorrow, wanted to see who people would recommend for this work. i know i have seen and been impressed with joe fittante's work. I live in the milwaukee area, any suggestions locally or anyone else who may be at this weekend's show? i'm sure they could be some show discounts i could take advantage of. Thanks!

Posts: 89 Location: Breezy Point, MN | Hi! I just received a replica of my 48"er I caught here in PA at the Pittsburgh Show this weekend and it looks awesome! Rick Lax is running a show special of $10.00 per inch, and his quality and attention to detail are excellent. I recommend checking his mounts out, and make sure to check out the head and gill areas, since I think that is where he has the nod over the other guys out there. Have fun in Chicago! This is the first Tri-Esox show I will not be attending in the history of the event, and that bums me out!

Posts: 71 Location: Lake St. Clair | I seen the Lax repro's at Columbus last year and they are impressive. That is a good deal for $10/inch.

Posts: 2037 Location: lansing, il | ill second joe fitante hes out of antigo wi. he did a repo of my 50 incher and when i opened the box when it finally came it looked like i was starin at the fish i released the previous year. his artist work is second to none!!! i think i paid 13 an inch at the time, thats a heck of a deal at 10 an inch. usally lax and fitante are both within the same price range. look at both and see which you prefer. remember that your the one who has to look at it for the rest of you life!! everyones opinion is different!

Posts: 714 Location: Rhinelander, WI | I second Fittante and Lax their work is excellent. It will come down to preference of paint job between the two. I know some how like Joe’s painting better and some who like Lax’s painting better. The both look great, I personally Prefer Fittante as he goes for a glossy wet look, which I like. One other superb thing about these guys is I believe they both pushed their prices of mounts to the same price per inch as a replica in an effort to steer people towards catch and release, as traditionally a mount costs $3 to $5 dollars/inch less. Posts: 3518 Location: north central wisconsin | I am having Fittante do a pike for me right now. should be done any day and will post pics. I just went and looked at my friend Chuck Schauers wifes 49.5"er that he had done at Gary Michaelsons taxidermy in Lake Tomahawk. That is bar none the best repro I have ever laid eyes on and I am about as picky as they come, when it comes to criticism. I honestly could not tell it was not a real fish, as even the mouths are more realistic now. The pose was also very unique. Chuck has had Gary do a 50" true, 49" hybrid, and 48" pike skin mounts as well over the last 20 years and they are works of art, all of them. I would suggest Joe Fittante or Gary Michaelson for sure. Posts: 1086 | Curious question: are these artists that are doing the repos bringing their prices of the repos down closer to the costs of traditional skin mounts to try and encourage CPR? Or are they raising their costs of the skin mounts to meet the costs of the repos? Anyone have web site addy's to Ron Lax and Gary Michaelson?

Posts: 3518 Location: north central wisconsin | I do not think Gary has a web site, but am not sure. I will try to get his phone number for you. You will not be sorry for looking at his work!! Not sure but i think alot of the above mentioned guys are the same price, skin or repro.
