| From the Michigan DNR under the musky identifying characteristics: "Beyond the challenge and thrill of landing a Great Lakes muskie, you will be sure to find its flesh tasty." Somebody please talk to the Michigan DNR for me and ask them to remove this last sentence! | |||

Posts: 149 | Michigan is in love with the trout. Ask 'em to change it to the following... "Beyond the challenge and thrill of landing a Great Lakes muskie, you will be sure to find its flesh tasty - but trout are even tastier and easier to catch."

| Will, I spoke with Jay Wesley, the SW Michigan Fisheries Supervisor today, and he said with your help and support we can get this wording removed! Thank you | |||

| The response I got from the regultions supervisor wasn't quite that positive. I'll keep some pressure on though. | |||

Posts: 1137 Location: Holly, MI | I'm not trying to stir up the hornets nest here but there are a lot of people who believe there are too many Muskies in Lake St Clair. I have had a few skunk days (hard to admit) but we also had a lot of 4-6 fish days last summer including one when we landed 7 out of 10 fish on with all 7 successfully released. There are a million bass, walleye, and perch fisherman on the lake who contribute tons more $ into the local economy. This is a hard objection to overcome from such a small group. I'll continue to practice and preach CPR but there are those who will and can do anything that is legal and they have the full right to do so. I certainly wouldn't mind if the DNR would select a lake nearer to my home and save me the long trip to put some of those St Clair beauties in. I have asked them to do so but without much success yet. It is tough to find the right kind of lake that they will do well in and the locals will accept them. Many people are afraid to have them in their small lakes for fear of the fish itself and what it might do to their panfish population.

| Lake Leelanau in Leelanau county would be a great muskie lake but I doubt you could get it pass the trout and walleye community. The walleye population has been on a down cycle there lately and the introduction of a new predator would be fought. | |||
