My wife was thinking about buying me a GPS for Christmas. There has been a sale on a Megellan sport Track with 8meg of memory and it come with some mapping software. I think it is land mapping software, not lakes maps. Dick's has it for $189 and Gander has it for $199. Does any one use this kind? What should I look for in a GPS? Any recommendations?

Thanks

I have a Lowrance H20 and I am really impressed with it. Add a Navionics map chip to it and you can position yourself on structures with ease. The LOTW Gold chip is pretty #*^@ accurate.

Sharphooks,
I use the Sportrak Map and I really enjoy it. Most guides I know and friends have the Garmin 72 handheld. I fished in Mexico last winter and the charter capt had a Garmin 72. That said, handhelds are handhelds. I'm saving money for the sonar/gps combo permanent mount for the boat and use the Magellan Sportrak Map to get me close for now. I can't see loading a map onto such a small screen, I'll buy a chip for the future permanent mount.
I credit three fish to reel bottom maps and gps for my limited success.
