| Come on folks lets make a fun story out of what happened to all of us last season month by month this past year to remember the good times.
I will start.
Jan.
Sport shows and more sport shows. Thats the norm for me in Jan and Feb. I was working on MC as thier editor and just before christmas a big story was broke that continued into Jan and Feb. "The CFMS". That story was one that I will never forget..as well as many others. Lots of good came from it and I was very pleased at that.
Feb.
The Milwaukee muskie expo brought lots of fun back into my town. The CFMS thing was still going.. but it good be able to hash the problems out. Steve Hieting, Larry Ramsell, Steve Worrall and myself worked it out in a manner that pleased the public's minds on the matter. The world and future studies are better because of it. In general Feb was a fun month in the chat rooms talking fishing and learning new and important things to try the next season.
Mar.
Brought in some warmer wheather. Some folks went south and did very well at Cave Run fishing for our favorite fish. Late spring poolside shows made everyone more eager to start pitching baits. Hot topics on baits like the "Manta" filled the internet. I also got my new 20 foot 1990 Esox Deep V and was I a very happy camper to get that on the water.
Apr.
This month got a lot of anglers back on the water. The PMTT started its first event of the year at Cave Run and there was almost 44 fish caught. My partner lost his cookies after eating at raw oysters at shoneys.. I will never forget that. Anglers fishing the Fox chain and the Fox Valley tourney had a great time also. I fished with Steve Worrall in the Fox Chain Tourney and we saw 12 lost 3 and caught a shorty. A normal trip with Steve for that matter..
[;)] [] We had more good discusions on baits, boats speeds and of course safety when it come to thinking you are racing people in a tourament. Pewaukee opened around the 10th, the latest she was ever frozen in my records.
May
This is my favorite month of all.. because the first Saturday in May is my home water opener. I went out fishing with Bill Schwartz and we had a fun opening day on the water, like always. We moved a dozen fish, boated on 38" and lost 4 more. The lake then with the extreme lack of week growth with the late ice moved a lot of fish out of the shallows quickly after the opener. The Pewaukee Classic two weeks later brought only one 35" in with 70 boats in the event. The event did not allow trolling and its too bad. Because the next day I went out with Cory Painter and we scored a legal very quickly trolling. The May Fox Chain PMTT brought many folks together on a very crowed, dangerous lake for a muskie tourney. About 13 fish were caught but saftey of the tourney contestants was brought to light. MuskieFIRST was also being built in the minds of Zach, Steve and myself.
June
The topwater season was in full swing, MN had had there opener and muskie seasons were wide open everywhere. Muskie anglers had a tough time dealing with the crazy weather, but some managed to get some real good fish. The June PMTT on Three lakes WI brought open water casting more into the piture and it was one that way. About 25 fish were caught under a full field of 150 boats. Many of the fish caught casting open water under the heat of the season.
July.
The Outdoor first network and MuskieFIRST was born. Live and rocking. Steve, Zach and myself opened a new format for those to learn about muskies on the internet. The word spread and many folks came to check this new site out. Now there was three major places for the public to get muskie info and talk muskies. Life couldnt be better.
[]. Many folks went to Canada including Steve Worrall who lost the fish of his dreams when the undertaker was thrown out of the mouth of a monster muskie.(Just thought I would remind you Steve) The MH school did very well on LOTW and many good reports came from that region.
Aug.
Weather wise things were still gooffy but many good fish reports were being talked about in the net. I went to Canada for only three days after the big fish Steve lost. We managed to run into a rare 98 degree heat and flat calm. We moved many good fish but did not have the right weather patterns to trigger the fish. We both got a 40" and went home looking forward to the next time we get back there.
Sept.
Was Slllllooooooowwwwwww. MuskieFIRST started having provider problems that took us down once for eight days. When we finally got back up, we were very slow. This was very trying for Zach, Steve and myself. We wanted to get the site rocking but the problems with our provider continued into October and the early part of November. The PMTT on Tonka was big with many many fish over 40". It took a 47.5 to get 10th. Now that was a big fish tourney. My transmission went out the week before the event.. and the muskie gods keeped me out of the best muskie tourney ever.[:knockout:]
Oct.
Brought the PMTT championship to Pewaukee Lake. 50 boats caught 29 muskies with a couple of good ones too. Including the big fish a 45" by our own Scott Jenkins on site. MF was still slow, but we managed to keep some content going strong.
Nov.
Brought back speed and many more users to our site. MuskieFIRST now owns its own servers with backup so it will never happen again. Deer hunting lead to some intersting discusions by Sponge Bob and Worrall never did get that buck he was trying to get. The
Wisconsin season ended with open water on all the lakes in the state and weather in the 60's.
Dec.
Brought the site back to life.. and LIVE with a chat room with guests like Bill Schwartz, Marc Thorpe and Rob Myers. All their chats are recorded in orginal content if you you click on the chat schedule on the main page. Christmas talk and future swap meets were the top of the discusions.
Next season there will be TONS to talk about, this site will be expanding to other venues and we will also have outings where members can meet each other. Its endless to the amount of things we can offer you folks. We also have a goal to make this a family of sportsmen, and I believe we wont have a problem doing that. [] |

| Went to most all of the sport shows over the winter through march with a trip to colorado in february. Broke ice to musky fish april 1st. Every trip was windy, rainy and cold or a combination of them untill I went to florida in june. The fishing was slow and many times was one of very few boats fishing, even pewaukee! Totally missed the hot june bite when things warmed up and came back from florida to the hot spell. Pops nailed a big fish on our late july vacation and then nothing untill after labor day. Sept to late oct. were great putting fish in the boat almost every time out somtimes doubling up. Things slowed down and then to a halt when today I let my remaining suckers go.[:((]
In less than two weeks is the first sport show. Can't wait. [:)] |
