Lake James or French Broad River in North Carolina but why? I'd go inshore fishing out of Tampa or Marco Island.

You never know what is going to bite, but the action with be non-stop when compared to normal muskie fishing. There is a great operation called the Mayport Princess that operates out of Jacksonville that is well worth the drive from Orlando. I would guess that there are good operations out of most all the larger towns on both coasts. Edited by Steve Van Lieshout 11/12/2004 8:46 AM

Location: Athens, Ohio | Go to Lake Toho and fish for the bigggg bass with live bait. That's as much fun as you could ever have down there. This is about the start of that season, I think. There were some issues with that lake, dunno if they were resolved. As far as flying, I hate it too and with all the new security stuff expect delays, lines, and hassles - then count your blessings if it all goes smoothly. Have fun, m

Posts: 3242 Location: Racine, Wi | One of my co-workers brother is trying to set up an excursion to some of the FL waters. Not sure for what yet, but apparently he loves fishing, and will do a good job hooking this up. As far as flying, I like the 3 bloody mary's + lots of cocktails. That should keep me good for a couple of hours.

Posts: 239 Location: Madison, WI | I'm with Mike, the big mouth carp fishing is awesome. We spent a day with Cap James Jackson on Taho pitching 12" wild shiners in the weeds with musky rated rods & reels and had a blast! Not far from Orlando, less then an hour as I recall. The fall bite is great and water levels are low making the fish easy to locate. 10#'ers are common. Check it out and good luck wherever you end up! D

Posts: 2091 Location: Stevens Point, WI | Take a couple of Benadryl an hour before you fly, it will calm you down and maybe make you sleep. It will also help with motion sickness quite well. Edited by MuskieMedic 11/12/2004 2:13 PM

Whatever you do, don't drink a lot the night before a fly with a hangover. You'd rather be deceased. A few drinks and a pack of gum and you'll be fine.

Posts: 224 Location: Madison | Also, if you're bringing your gear with you, make sure you don't mistakenly pack a knife or anything like that on the plane. I was flying back from Intl. Falls this year, and some poor schmoe accidentally left his filet knife in his carryon bag. Oops. He got pulled off the plane by TSA (actually never made it TO the plane) and run through some background checks. Needless to say, he didn't make the flight to Minneapolis, much less his connection to Indy. He was with a group of 12-14 guys. One one hand, it was pretty obvious the guy (middle-aged, with a big group) just made a big mistake, but on the other hand I guess I'd rather them be TOO careful, and it's not like the guy didn't know better. -d

Leave one end without the tape for inspection until after it is checked in, then tape it. The baggage handlers will take it personally as a challenge to test the PVC rod holder for its strength. They hold up!

Posts: 484 Location: St. Louis, MO., Marco Is., FL, Nestor Falls, ON | I spend the winter and spring in Marco Island, FL and can certainly recommend saltwater fishing in that area. Al is right when he talks about arm wrenching action. I have caught 15 lb. saltwater fish that would have drowned a 30 lb. muskie if tied tail to tail. Don't get me wrong...I still love muskie fishing best, but those saltwater fish really pull hard!

Definately get down to the East cost and go for some saltwater stuff. I am actually currently in the Orlando area finishing up a 6 month internship. I figured I would be heartbroken without some muskie waters and that I would be fishing a lot for bass but after tying in to some saltwater stuff I changed my mind. Go down to Sebastian Inlet, about 1.5 hours from Orlando. Get some mullet and start fishing. Everything from Redfish and snook to some huge jacks and tarpon. You'll be amazed how hard a redfish and jack can pull. If you need any help or have any questions shoot me an email at [email protected]
