Posts: 336 Location: Lino Lakes, MN | hey, just got to thinking about converting more fish on suckers. with the year coming to an end, i need to put all the odds in my favor of sticking fish....needless to say that other than an unreal week on LOTW, this season has been a bummer. ive heard a lot of talk about putting a tail gunner on a sucker. just wanted to see what your opinions were. will this convert more fish, or will it make it look too un-natural? presonally, i think that there is enough hardware with the quick strike rigs already, but i figure at this point, im about ready to try anything. thanks for any input. lazer

A little extra flash can't hurt. Give it a try and see if it works for you. People add them to Bull Dawgs as well if you want to try that?

They work. Just remember to remove the spinner blade if you are going to let the sucker go after using it. I still feel bad for that one... Doh!

Posts: 1245 Location: Madtown, WI | I am not a tailgunner fan for the waters I fish just because they seem very conditioned to unatural things unless the feed bag is really on. Personal preferrence. However, I have been putting a little twister on the little hook I have stuck in the suckers mouth. A little white flashing near the suckers head could be enough to turn a fish into an eater in my mind. Especially when the suckers put on the "freeze" act...hopefully with just a little movement of the boat drifting the twister is still kicking and thats enough movement to get the sucker whacked! Had some sucess with this years ago (seen other people do it) and one in the boat this year with it on...of course hard to tell if it was a factor or not. Probably more of a confidence thing for me...but I need all the help mentally I can get (I know a few of you will pipe in on this one)!!! Not saying tailgunners won't work...I think I remember Herbie saying they are good early fall but late fall he didn't care for them either...not sure if that is true but that is how I remember it....this all goes back to my mental thing..... Posts: 3518 Location: north central wisconsin | I really like them earlier in the season as Cory pointed out, and also all season on dark waters. I like the smaller colorado blades as the sucker is less restricted. I use the same size blade that comes on an Inhaler bucktail as a chaser. Copper, orange, and yellow are my favorites. Run one with and one without to experiment. Keep the one with the 'butt dart' as I call it, up higher so the light hits the blade. Good luck!!!!

Posts: 333 Location: menasha wi 54952 | I have never had much luck using spinners for tail gunners but a colored balloon safety pinned to the tail has been awesome!!!! It has action in the water even when the sucker is motionless. Give it a try ![]() MR

Location: Contrarian Island | only my opinion here...as i don't have experience with them..but i would think in dark waters it would help...clear waters..not so sure..here in Madison, like Cory said,,,the fish are very weary of anything un-natural..I don't put anything funny on my suckers...I might try the twister, but that might just be to help my confidence.. I guess try it...one with, one without and see which one gets wacked more often...good luck and post your findings!
