Got my biggest turkey ever with my bow. 11" beard, 1 1/4" spurs. Luckiest 35 yard shot you've ever seen! I only apply for spring time zones before the 1st Saturday in May. I do a cast and blast for trout if I get my bird early.

Of Course! Only real men (and women) do both! In WI, I apply for the season which is the last weekend of April before muskie fishing starts.

I hunt in LaValle, I can almost cast to Dutch Hollow lake. Awesome turkey & deer country!

I spend most of my time trout fishing the Pine and Willow. It is all early season C&R but still fun if I am lucky enough to get my bird right away.

Seems like I spent some time on the Green when I was young. We would fish it on the way to my uncle's cabin on the Mississippi.

Anyone up for a Cast & Blast at Cave run this year? They, like Illinios, only let you hunt birds till noon. I believe their permits are OTC as well so no firm commitment / lottery application needed.

twitcher, i'm not up for a cast and blast, but i just wanted to post on this thread. i'm not a hunter, i don't even own a gun, but i love turkeys! i have been working on my calls the past few years and have been getting better.
on one of my trips to the cave my parnter TopWater Terry(the best turkey guide in Northern IN), he called a flock (i know this term is probably wrong) of them down the water out of the mountains. (mouth calls). it was really cool. so, later on that day, i started a few calls here and there...bam! it happened. i called down about 6 turkeys to the water edge. it was like they couldnt see me on the water and was not threatened by me bacause i was on the water. who knows, but like all my trips the cave, the fishing SUCKED but we saw about 20 turkey that day. some BIG TOM's too. it was awesome. I dont' know how the hunting is down there, but the little time we called, we saw plenty. turkey calling in the boat is a must now when i'm on a lake this isnt totally covered in houses.
that's my worthless contribution/story.

Gobbler hunting is a close third to muskie fishing and archery hunting. In PA we are also only able to hunt until noon.

tomyv, a couple of years ago Wisconsin changed from turkey hunting closing each day at noon to evening. The hens on the nest probably are getting hasseled more than is necessary. I have been told by guys who claim to know, that in that situation, the hens will abandone the nest if they are bothered enough. In WI the turkey population is exploding so I guess those concerns are not valid.

Steve, we also have the same situation here, in my opinion, the turkey population is bordering on out of control, but maybe a bad winter and some hungry coyotes will change that. I think that if they did in fact allow hunting into the evening, it would be great, I've had better luck calling gobblers at 11am than 7am, just my experience.
