Does anyone use the Shimano TDR's casting rods for trolling? I think LOBI said he did? anyway..does anyone have experience with the model 1953...the 9'6" Med/Heavy..I was thinking this would be good for front rods I put baits out on?!? I'm just starting to get the right equipment for trolling so any suggestions appreciated.

I have used the 8' TDR rods for trolling this year and have had no problems. I think you'll be happy with them. They have been good to me.

I've used them for two years. I believe the fiberglass heavy 8 foot, model 1902 is what you want

Brian Boyer, the maker of legend lures I believe uses the heavy TDR's in eight footers. Brian is one heck of a fisherman and troller. The rods must hold up.
I used them for years and never had a problem. Nice rod for the money.

I changed the tip top to a twilly top on TDR rod and now use it as my wire lining rod. They work well, including handling VERY large baits. I'll be testing a new 16" bait that I made on that rod tomorrow.

I ran the new 16" bait (the black one) on a TDR 1703 (missing its last 6" so a twilly top could be installed.) and the rod worked great. It managed all of the thumping of this VERY large bait with no problem. It transferred the baits action well, unfortunately no fish to report. BTW, the perch bait (with lip) is a little bigger than a 10" Jake just to put it into perspective.

I have 2 1804's that I troll with. I also have a 9 1/2 footer that is heavier with a twilli tip with wire line on it. I run the wire rod with dipsy divers Salmon trolling. I have yet to try trolling for Muskie with the wire rod but plan on giving it a shot. My planerboard rods are longer and graphite so I can see the action at the tip (weeds).
