Location: Ft. Wayne Indiana | "t'ing your hooks is very simple. People are making it to hard.
When you look at your hook, it looks like a "Y" make it look like a "T" instead. The "t" part will lay flat against the lure so it won't rub all the time.
Simply change it from a "Y" to a "T". Lay the hook flat on the bait, and bend the two hooks until they lay flat on the lure.

Location: Holly, MI | If it is to be a trolling lure it might still get chewed up pretty good. You might also, after t-ing it bend the hook down a bit on the two top barbs that you teed (zat a word?) Works for me. I'll post a pic if you want. let me know |

| Definately a 2 plier operation. Just grab on to the eye in line with the shank with one set, then take the second set and bend 2 of the 3 to make a "T" shape if you are looking at the hook from the bottom up... The flat side should rest against the bait. As Lobi said, afte T-ing, you can bend the 2 hooks down away from the bait even further to prevent premature wear on the body of the bait. Does that make sense? |

| So is this something you are just doing for the belly hook(s)? Also, you know looking at some of my baits around here it looks as though the hooks already lay pretty flat...

| Everybody seems to do this differnt. Grab the hook that points down away from the bait with 1 set of pliers. Lay the hook down on firm surface. PUSH!! The hook is then "T"ed. Bend the hooks down like LOBI says. Works good, better hook ups!! |

| I must interject. Simply pushing down on the hook doesn't do it, because the eye of the hook is not in line with the hook eye, and one side of the lure will wear.
If you want to "T" it properly, the eye of the hook and the eye of the screw eye must line up.
Hold the hook so that the eye of the hook will line up in the same direction as the screw eye, perpendicular to the lure body, then form the "T" without moving the eye. When done properly, the eye of the hook and the eye of the lure will be in line with a split ring in between.
Pushing down leaves the hook eye at an angle, and the hook will ride on one side of the lures body.
It's hard to see, but the third hook is pointing straight up at you, right in line with the hook eye.
