Location: MPLS, MN | I fish a lake with heavy milfoil that goes out to about 15 ft around the whole lake. When I troll in the fall it's usually a battle of yanking off weeds. What are any suggestions for fishing fall on a lake with milfoil? Trolling or Casting. Depth you would troll etc.. Thanks for any help. |

Location: Suspended | I'd troll the weedline with deep diving crankbaits on short lines out 10 to maybe 25 feet, running the shortest lines at the weedline and the longer lines out away from it. Run with the rod tips under the surface if there's still floaters around. If nothing bites I'd move out and try a little deeper with longer lines to get half way down the water column and maybe even one ticking bottom at that 15' mark near but not on the weedline. |

| Shortline troll your minnow baits and crank baits, or try trolling a spinnerbait on the weedy side |

Location: New Baden IL | I'd agree with the suggestions already on this post, but what I do that really helps keep some of the millfoil off my baits is to leave a "tag" on my leaders.
I use 135lb single strand wire, and when I make the twist to put the ball bearing swivel on, I leave about a 2-3" tag of the wire on the leader.
Take that tag, and bend it perpendicular to the leader, just a little bit over 90 degrees from the main part of the wire.
This little tag will catch a ton of the loose stuff that's out there.
I also keep my rod tips about one foot under the water, it helps some too.
Keeping the tips under is real helpful this time of year, when the surface of the lakes get covered up with leaves.

Location: oswego, il | Your best bet is to troll short lines. They definitley give you more control. I can't vouch for the minnesota millfoil lakes but it seems that after turnover the trolling bite on the millfoil lakes die down here. Casting glidebaits while soaking suckers seem to catch more fish. Not sure why, I can only surmise that it has to do with the lakes diversity of structure and what available conditions the fish have to live in compared to a sheild lake with all kids of varying structure that allows for a good after turnover trolling bite. |
