Hi guys, Wanted to do some research on the Indian Lake Chain near Vermilion Bay. Can anyone please give me the names of the 10 (or so ) lakes on the chain? Thanks, "Jackpot" John Schroeder

Thanks for the quick response. May I ask how you've done over the years on the chain? Is it most noted for numbers, for size, or for both, and how much pressure does it get. Thanks again, John

It is a numbers system with fish from 30" to 45" and sometimes longer ones. Tracy

Indian is the best fishing lake in the chain, but good fish can be found throughout. The chain changes as you go down the length...deeper and much more clear water. At Augite Falls, the water is so clear that you can watch small muskie stalk your Rapala in 6-8 ft of water. Indian is the best muskie lake in my opinion. A good deep water trolling lake, too. I'm going today. Start fishing tomorrow and stay for the week. I have always felt that while the summer action is consistently hot, the Fall will bring larger fish...pretty much like everywhere else. Smaller baits work better here than do larger baits.

Posts: 7049 Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | Me and the old man were there last week, action was hot, biting was not. We moved fish on all the clearer lakes (Cobble, Boulder, Little Boulder, Indian and Edwards) off rock reefs extending from shore. We moved fish basically when we were in 18'-25' of water, any less and no action. We moved about 75 fish over 6 days of muskie fishing, but only boated 4, and missed 3. We were slinging the heavy artillery (big jakes and dawgs, and depthraiders) almost the whole time, which brought fish up......but they wouldnt eat. But I did get 3 to go on the 8" shaker, 3 bites, 2 boated but no follows on it. I figure we didnt adjust right and throw smaller stuff. If you would like more detail, shoot me an email at [email protected]!

We've had pretty much the same luck as everyone else. Lots of fish between 36-42, but nothing real big. Our group of +/- 10 guys has been fishing the chain for nearly 35 years and the biggest is a 46". We've had our best luck in Edwards. Back in August we (10 guys) boated 18 over 36" including 2 42". We've seen plenty of bigger fish in these lakes, but they just don't seem to hit.

Posts: 155 Location: Watertown MN | I would try trolling in the fall, bright colored jakes, grandma's, and depth raider. We average 3-4 fish a day last time we were up there in the fall. Fished mostly Indian and Edwards, never thrown a cast, have always trolled, one day 10 fish boated 6 lost in 4hours, speed 4-5 mph. Good luck Troyz

Thanks for all the responses guys. One more question I just thought of.... Are all of the lakes connected in a way that makes navigation possible through the entire chain, without having to put your boat on the trailer and drive to a different landing? Also, is Canyon Lake connected in this way as well, or would you have to launch somewhere else to fish Canyon? Thanks, John

All the lakes are connected and are easily navigable. Moose and Little Moose take some work to get to, but anysize boat can get back there. Canyon and Langton need to driven to put your boat in. Augite is a short walk from Little Boulder. I'm not sure if there is a boat landing on the lake, but there is usually a boat along the stream available.
