Wondering who is using fluorocarbon leaders for quick strike rigs. Any bite offs? I thought of a new way to do a quick strike (that I have no idea if it will work) but I might use fluoro or just 7 strand for the leader. Any thoughts on using fluoro appreciated. I have not used it, ever, for any leaders as I am just not 100% sold on it, but in the clearer waters from now until Ice up I could see it might have an advantage ...thanks

I wouldn't use it. Good chance of having that stuff through the fishes mouth with that type of rig. The only place I could see it being an advantage is with circle hooks. With all the jewelry on a quickstrike I doubt the leader is going to make that big of difference. Plus, the way most people set hooks on a quick strike all the shock will go right to the leader if your using braided...all the shock to the leader and in the fishes mouth...no thanks.

NOW, if your looking for stealth, a circle hook on flouro might not be a bad option since you won't have the shock of the hook set nor will you have all the jewelry hanging off the fish.

I would strongly recommend NOT using a a florocarbon leader on quick strikes For the main reason that I lost the biggest fish I've ever had the opportunity at and I had a line failure.

Do Not use floro or you will be sorry, this I can Guarranty!

I used to use floro for trolling leaders and never had a bite off. I have since switched to mono because it is so much more supple and allows more bait movement. I currently use 50 lb mono and have landed many fish without having a bite off on mono either.

The floro has much less strech than mono. I don't think a short heavy piece of it will effect strech or hookset at all. Your rod will bend way before the floro streches. Take a 2 foot piece of 50 lb florocarbon line and try to strech it between a couple of pairs of pliers, I'll bet you don't get a 1/2 inch of strech.

I would definatly use it. But then again will the Muskie even care if he is already looking at that juicy sucker? I Doubt it.

I wouldn't be concerned with the stretch...its the shock it would take that concerns me. The point you brought up about it not being very plyable is a good one as well...

I would be up for trying a circle hook on the stuff though...thats about as natural as your going to get.....

I make my own sucker rigs using flourocarbon. I have not had any problems at all. What i think makes a big difference is my hook choice. I use 1/0-3/0 mustad round bends. They are not 4X hooks and i do not have to do a bone jarring hookset to get hooks into a fish. My hookups have been excellent. I use a liftoff rig and mak up my rigs on the spot using my 3ft trolling leaders. I have leads made up of various lengths and use the right length for the sucker. This also reduces the amount of loop in each lead so you don't have a bunch of slack to take up to get the hooks into a fish either.
