Just picked up a few #5 Mepps Marabou spinners. I'm thinking that these will be great for pressured lakes and early in the season.

Anybody use them yet?

Thanks,

Johnny B

I have done great on the Mepps Marabous...my first one got so beat up by fish I had to get another... I suggest clipping the front hook off, putting on a bigger with split ring..same for the back...

I was fortunate enough to have my hands on a number of the prototypes of this bait from the opener on. They do catch fish. On the opener it took about an hour before the first musky of the year hit the #5 marabou.

For the most part this year the weather in Wisconsin kept the fish chasing smaller baits. I threw the #5 quite a bit all the way through July. I caught fish all the way through. I agree they will work great on high pressured waters also. In case you were wondering, they don't just catch small fish either. Here's a fish I caught in early July using a prototype of the #5 Mepps Marabou.

Hey fellas, I had nothing but trouble with them. They bled all over. The coloring in the tails will run. Tell me if you guys have any problems with them.

Two weeks ago I know Guides Choice in Eagle River WI had them in stock.

I can't wait to try the #5 Marabou this weekend. It's about half the size of the standard tandem Mepps Musky Marabou. Probably going to throw it using a flipping stick or MH bass rod.

I also seen them up at the turtle river trading company if you are in the mercer area. They had about 5 sleight jerkbaits on the shelf too and a very odd looking bagley jerkbait which I promptly bought.

Jackson had them, too, he sent me mine when they just came out. I did very well on the black and gold last week at LOTW, it was one of my top producers. Gene's green / silver Maribou did bleed a bit of green on me, but honestly I didn't have that trouble with my firetiger nor the black. They have a yellow one out that I saw at BassPro in Cincy and am still kicking myself for not getting it. great bait, that big blade gives off a thump you can feel up thru the rod handle, it was calling fish where willow blades were not. m
