| Hi guys, Looking for feedback from any of you who have purchased one of the new Bombardier motors. (2002 or newer). My dad bought a '97 Ficht 150 h.p, which turned out to be a lemon (as did most of the 98's and 99's), and is looking to replace it (prefers to stay with Evinrude, IF the problem has been fixed). My understanding is that the last half of the '01s, and all motors since, have been manufactured by Bombardier. So looking for feedback from any of you who have one of the newer, Bombardier-manufactured, motors. If not another Evinrude, what would you suggest? Posts: 484 Location: St. Louis, MO., Marco Is., FL, Nestor Falls, ON | I have a '98 Ficht 150 hp. motor that started out a lemon and has been exceptionally good since a new 2000 powerhead was put in. I fish 200 days per year and run a lot of mile. Evinrude had the problems pretty well fixed by 2000. Bombardier has done nothing but improve the engine ever since taking over. Last year Bombardier won the J.D. Powers award for excellence for their Ficht engine and customer satisfaction. The new E-Tech motor is grabbing lots of attention for its performance, no break in period and no maintenance for 3 years. It is so quiet you can't believe it. It is still a two stroke so hole shot and top end speeds are not a problem. And it's the lowest fuel and oil consumer ever. I wouldn't hesitate to buy an Evinrude now that Bombardier has take the reins. | ||

Location: Woodstock, IL | I've got a 150 Evinrude Ficht. The motor runs very well. My only gripe is that it has had a problem leaking oil down the transom mount. The factory claimed that it was residual oil and was normal. I could prevent it by not tilting the motor all the way up. Wrong answer! Eventually they replaced the air box that leaked the oil and that was supposed to correct the problem. It didn't. After much to-do, I just got it back from the shop where a lift pump was replaced due to a bad diaphram. That will supposedly fix the problem according to the factory, but the mechanic isn't convinced yet. Everything has been covered by warranty, it is just annoying when you spend that kind of money on an outboard. I'll have it out this weekend and the entire week of Labor Day, so it will get good use. Other than that very annoying problem, it's been a reliable motor. Starts easy and runs strong. | ||

Posts: 155 Location: Watertown MN | John I would go with the the Evinrude, I have the 225 HO this year and she has been good so far, alot of people that I have talked to highly recommended them, they have been pretty bullet proof. I am sure Steve could get you one heck of a deal on a 225 opti. Suzuki, or yammy would be my other choice. Good luck Troyz | ||

Posts: 1189 Location: Bagley,MN 56621 | Had a 200 H.O. Rude last year and loved it. I would have gotten another one in a heartbeat if I didnt have to wait for the boat to be built. I jumped ship and am in a Yammie EFI now, but the boat was ready to go so I pulled the trigger. It burns more gas and has more smoke than a direct injected, but I am very very pleased with it's performance as well. If I am in a position to order the exact boat with the exact motor and exact extras I want the next time, it will be an E-Tec H.O. hands down!! been happy with the other brands, but if given a choice, thats my number one pick | ||

| What about the Evinrude Etec? I heard they are great. Dont really know a lot about them. I was thinking I would go with one of those if my motor ever blows. I have an 1986 Evinrude 70 that runs like a champ. I think I will wait and see what kind of reviews they get. If they are crappy Im going foreign all the way. I never was a fan of Mercury.... | |||

Posts: 184 Location: Rockford Il 61108 | I was at a local lake yesterday and noticed a guy using a 75hp etec on a red lund. Beautiful boat and motor. He said he loved his etec and that it pushed his 18ft lund fine. I couldnt even here it running as we talked. Clean and crisp and doesnt spit like the mercury. | ||

Posts: 130 Location: Menomonee Falls, WI | Jackpot, My vote would be for the E-TEC. Hands down! I am running the E-TEC 90 on my Princecraft. I have yet to experience personally nor have I heard anything negative about it. You gotta love the no break in period, no service for 3 years, as well as it is a self-winterizing motor. Quiet and fuel efficient like four stroke, but light as a two stroke. If you have any other questions, please feel free to PM me.
