| I'm buying a new reel and was looking for some input. I'm right handed so I only use left hand retrieve reels which limits my options. Any info pro or con would be great. Thanks "Brandy your a fine girl, but my life my love and my lady is a ski." | |||

Posts: 382 | Lefty, DO NOT PURCHASE THE NEW 7000 BIG GAME THAT IS GOLD IN COLOR. They last literally hours I went through 4 in less than a week! Something "locks up" in them and won't release any line KOMER

| I have been using the Big Game 7001HS and have not had a problem other than loosing the wrong knob for casting. I normally losen the knobs under the star drag and when I did this the knob fell off. When I got that straightened out, it work great. Love the ease of retrieving the biggest baits. I have no expereince with the Daiwa cv-z. | |||

Posts: 138 | I have 2 of the red 7001's in a 4.1 to 1 ratio and have never had a problem with them at all, I use them for trolling only. I have never used the Diawa cv-z so I can't say the 7001's are better or worst. Jeff

Posts: 358 Location: London, England | I have a red 7001 and a big game gold 7001 and like them both. Both reels have needed a replacement anti-reverse dog as they have worn very quickly, but the replacements have lasted well so far. I like the reels but if the Daiwa has a similar capacity and retrieve rate to the gold 7001 the instant anti reverse would be a nice feature. If the Dawia's a smaller reel, similar to the 6501, I would go for the 7001.

Posts: 1462 Location: Davenport, IA | I don't have a cv-z but i have 2 cv-x's (lower priced, less bearings but similar) and they are my favorite reels. They have taken the abuse better than anything else I've used (abu, shimano, okuma, cabela's, ect) I use the small reels though. With superline as thin as it is I don't see a point in big reels. I use the 253 size which is between a 4600 and 5600 abu.

Posts: 158 Location: Eagan, MN | If you've never used a 7000/7001 you owe it to yourself to try one. A lot of people argue that they are perfect for speed applications like bucktails, and they are right. Others say they are the answer to big, hard-pulling jerks and cranks, and they're right, too. Try one for a few hours, then go back to a 6500 or calcutta 400 sized reel. The smaller reel will feel wimpy and slow by comparison.
