| Went to home depot today and bought one of those plastic wash sinks with the metal legs, 14 bucks. Bought a couple of fittings to cap the drain in case the suckers loosened up the rubber plug 3 bucks. Also bought a wire mesh tray that was shallow and fit into the top of the sink 10 bucks(they will jump outotherwise). Went to walmart and bought an aquarium filter 20 bucks. Put it all together and cut the tray for the filter unit to fit. Cost me less than fifty bucks and you could probably do it cheaper. I have fourteen suckers in it and I could put even more. I keep it in the garage to keep the water cold. Will have to monitor the weather. I may add a heater if it gets below freezing and I want to keep them.[:)] |

| As a kid I had a 110gal aquarium with big Oscars in it. With big fish in that small tank, you are going to have to either clean the water or change (up to 30%) of it often. Also, if you are using tap water, you will have to condition the water to get the chemical additives that our fine municipalities add. A bottle of conditioner can be bought for a couple bucks at your local pet shop. What are you planning to feed those suckers? Oscar pellets might work. |

| Another cheap way to keep them is to have them get a part time job....[:blackeye:] [:blackeye:] [:blackeye:] [:blackeye:] |

They deserve respect + dignity and being unionized will enable them to unite + fight![:0] [:sun:] |

| Sure Sponger, and they will probably then swim about with their heads out of the water searching for the wayward Sponge to appear on the water, so they may warn the good-to-eat fish of your approach...
Great sucker tank, and good idea!! |

| I have a 48qt Iglo cooler.. I put those bubble stone strips on the bottom and run and aquarium pump on top. It works great, you have a drain and handles to carry it out to the boat.. $25
A heater would be a nice touch..[;)] |

| My water comes from a well so I am ok. All suckers are ok. I bought nine of them from these guys sunday who were going to dump them. Even the ones they had rigged are doing fine.
The laundry sink is holding 2.5 bcukets (the extra tall frabill ice fishing bucket) full of water. I also have a bubbler going for added security.
One very very important thing to note. You better have a lid on it. They will jump out. Pops opened the lid to the cooler I was using because he thought they were not getting any air even though I had a bubbler pumping air in. Two were on the garage floor the next day. |

| Sounds like a great idea. Wondering what you will do to keep them safe during very hot weather? |

| Hello,
I posted last night but it is gone, oh well here it is again.
I use a Rubbermaid container from either Walmart, Target, etc. It is around ten bucks and holds close to 60-70 gallons. Has a secure lid also. I then use an old bilge pump, pond pump, or a livewell system. I got one from bass pro for 30$, works(runs) great off an old tolling motor battery. If I am going to keep them for a long period of time I will put 2-4" of sand on the bottom to act as media for bacteria growth, this is important to keep the amonia down which is lethal. I also buy another small container with a lid to put the pump into. Surround the pump with lava rocks(media) amd drill a ton of holes into the container so that water can be sucked in by the pump. This will suffice for roughly an inch of fish per a gallon, but I have squeezed much more into it for awhile. If you have the water circulating and reentering the container from at least a few inches above the water then there will also be a constaint flow of oxygen into the water.
Good luck keeping them.
Kly
Oh yeah make sure to take any dead ones out immediately, because this could immediately add to the ammonia level and kill all of them. |
