Tom,

The WMT is affordable, well organized, has good payouts, is fished by a great bunch of guys without "look at me" attitudes, is fished on bodies of water all over the state so no matter where you are, there's at least one tourny accessible to you, great sponsors and emphasizes fun!

Yup, it's a transportable tourny trail, and there's a GLoomis combo offered for largest Northern. I'd say that if people dont like the concept, dont fish it. I think the combo idea is great, gives a partner the chance to keep fishing and the opportunity to win a great prize instead of watching.

I know that next year, my partner and I will fish more WMT's and maybe pass on the PMTT. The funds needed and vacation time could be spent on a week in Canada and then a week in Guatamala during ice time. The WMT event this year allowed for us to fish with different people and share all info. We had a deal to split the winnings 4-ways and it paid out. We both placed in the cash! Too bad the Championship is the same weekend as Minnetonka.

I don't think tourneys have lost their appeal. There is just a lot more of them, and more choices for musky fisherman. Yes the PMTT requires more travel and expenses, but it is higher profile and offers more sponor opportunities for those fishing the events. The WMT is more conveinent for those who live in WI, and Paul Hartman's tournaments are also easy for those in MN. I think the PMTT Mega and Simply Fishing tournaments are a new novelty this year and have a lot of people spending big money for entry fees and expenses on these two events. Once 70% of these teams fishing these events come home empty handed, I think things will change next year. You could take 4 canada trips with the costs to fish the Simply Fishing 5 day event!

In regards to the PMTT Mega, even if it is half full I still like the odds of only competing two days for more money than any other musky tournament ($50,000) with 75 boats!

I'm with you JAS. the PMTT Mega might not have a full field, but that means there is that much better of a chance at winning at least $50,000 for the first place prize package. It sure sounds like that to some of you guys $50,000 isn't a lot of money. I'll take it and need it.

Hope to see everyone there.

Hey Don Pfieffer,

You seem to be pretty knowledgable having fished in so many tournaments, could you answer some questions for me. You said you and others don't want to drive to Ney York. What about the people from New York and other states out east. They have to travel to all the other tournaments. This doesn't seem fair. I am not really knowlidgable on the whole tournament thing, but it sure sounds like the PMTT is where it's at. It sure sounds like they deserve a lot of credit for running a national circuit for muskies. If they didn't go to other states like New York and Kentucky and others, then you would be stuck with only the localized tournaments.

Not being a tournament guy myself, it sure seems like the ones to be fishing in are the pmtt. You never here about who wins the other tournaments or anything about them. But I pick up all kinds of magazines and papers and it sure seems like they do the kind of coverage that the contestants would want. I guess it's kind of like the major leagues and the minor leagues.

Gander,

What ever you do do not get out of the boat with bill. He has a problem with leaving people stranded.

Sorry it took awhile to reply Tom. I was at lake vermilion prefishing for a few days. I'm by no means an expert on this ut common sense I think says it all here. From the post I see I am not alone in my thoughts on this.
What I think and alot of other teams do about fishing N.Y. mostly pretains to being there for the championpship.
I would venture a guess that out of the 5o teams to fish it there won't be more then maybe 8 or 9 if that that reside east of the Illinois Indiana state line. This means they are making about 40 teams make a very long trip.
This means you have 40 teams or so that need to take more time off then they allready have to fish the previous events. By having the invitational in the midwest it would have been more practical for the majority of the teams.
I had a great time in N.Y. when there the last time and lost the fish of a lifetime but I still feel it was a bad move to host the championship there. Hope that answers your question.
Again I want to say I have a great time fishing the P.M.T.T. and have made alot of new friends.
Good luck to all the teams fishing either event!!!!!!!!!!!!

Someone said that if the mike james tournament is only half full they would be fishing against 75 teams for $50,000. That I don't believe is right. Half a field would cut the $75,000 purse for first in half to $37,500.
I do not think they will will pay out 2/3 of of the full field prize money to only half a field. Yes the boat you'll win also.

I think both big bucks tournaments will do just fine and everyone will be happy and its a great start to better things to come. The P.MT.T. and simply fishing should get a big pat on the back for this large undertaking.

I believe the PMTT Mega payoff will be $25K cash and $25K boat with a half field.

The boat is $25K regardless of how many entries. So you cannot just cut the $75K in cash in half, that doesn't work.

It must be pro-rated to take into consideration the $25K boat. So a total payout of $50K ($25K cash and $25K boat) would make the most sense.
