| I am looking to buy a G. Loomis Muskie MUR914C-MB Rod, 7'7" medium, 17-40lb, 1-3oz. I want this rod to throw topwaters such as salmmer thunderheads(1 3/4 oz), top raiders(1 3/4 oz), and musky busters(2 oz). Before I purchase the rod I would like to know if this rod will handle these baits. If any of you guys have this rod or know anything about it I'd like to hear your thoughts.
Thanks,
D |

| ILung, that's great rod for little baits and or surface baits. The rod will load up when throwing 2 oz an bigger lures, but not too much w/ the baits you mentioned above. The rod had awesome sensativity and you'll be albe to cast a mile with it.
That rod's really not good for Eagle Tails or other big bucktails or spinners, but for little bucktails or anything w/a Willow Leaf blade on it, it's a great rod.
I love the longer foregrip on the rod, and 7'7" is good all around lenght. Yea, it's a good topwater rod, but not for hair w/ alot of thump.
Light, Sensative, but powerful enought to get decent hook set and long enough to fig 8...yea, i like the rod (for littler baits)
i hope this helps, if you get the rod, you will like it.

| Nice rod for smaller baits but too light in this length. I would go with a heavier action. I have a 7' Loomis MH that would be overstressed by a Topraider. Awesome for 7" Suicks, small bucktails, sluggos etc but not for anything heavier or with more water resistance. |

| I've had that exact Loomis rod for 2 years now. It works great in the weight range are talking about (1-3 ozs). Although I haven't taken any muskie on it yet (not to many here in Alaska) I have taken king salmon to 50 lbs on it. Generally I cast #6 Vibraxs as well as bait cast with 1 to 3 ozs of lead at times. I love the rod.....personally I rarely use anything shorter than about 7 feet for anything.
My three cents,

| Check out the length of the handle on the G-loomis compared with a St. Croix.
St. Croixs are longer. Much more fishable.
My 2 cents... |
