Any info on how these reels hold up? Really like the thumb bar idea. Are these new or dicontinued? Any info would be great....Ben

Ben-

I bought two of them this spring. I was told that they were made for smaller specialty type sportshops. Gander Mountain, Cabela's, BPS, WallyWorld etc won't have them. Insides are identical to the 6500's, the only difference is the thumb bar and the maroon sideplates. I even checked part numbers the other day and the part numbers I checked were the same as well. They should hold up just as well as the other Garcias would be my guess.

I wish I could report on durability of them but my fishing time has been limited this year. I've only been out five times this year and only once since I bought the reels. I'm hoping they hold up but don't see why they wouldn't.

I bought 2 of them also and was told the same as scott, It is the same as the 6500 so they should hold up, I have caught a few with them this summer and so far no issues. I did buy it in a small shop and was told the same about them only being available to small shops. I wanted one like this for years.

I am going to pick one up later this fall. They look solid to me. I also like the 5:3:1 gear ratio.

Seems like my Daiwa Millionaire is too slow. It only has a 5:1:1 gear ratio and cannot burn any type of
baits. Reels in super smooth but super slow. I wish they would make the millionaire in 5:3:1 or 5:8:1
