I have used Spectra T.U.F. line since I started muscky fishing. Has anyone have any suggestions on staying with this line or trying something better? Has anyone used the Spectra T.U.F Line XP?? ANy thoughts and suggestions would be great. I am about to place an order and want to make a wise decision. Thanks Matt

Go with 80 pound Spectron or Power Pro instead! ![]()

I second that emotion!!! Power Pro 80lb or 100lb to land a big one, but also to hold onto any expensive jerkbaits that are at the end of a nasty backlash.

I've used tuf line for a few years and really like it. I've never had any problems. I've never used power pro though. Why is it better?

Posts: 459 Location: New Baden IL | I have used 80LB Cortland Spectron since 1998 with exactly ZERO line failures. This stuff is tough as can be, but casts easily and is forgiving if you backlash. Rod

Posts: 22 Location: Twin Cities | I use Cortland Spectron as well... Both 50# and 80#, you pick based on your applications. No issues, no complaints. -Dean Edited by deanj 7/28/2004 2:50 PM

Posts: 437 | I used Tuf Plus a couple years ago, aside from the line retaining more water than a room full of PMS'ing females, tons of backlashes because it likes to bind into the spool it was a good line. Honestly, it was absolutely the worst line I have ever used. I know people have had good luck with the original and even XP, but I don't believe for one minute that anyone can like the Plus stuff. Pure junk! I now use Whiplash in either 80 or 100 pound. I like the 100 a little better because it has a thicker diameter, but both work well. I would not recommend ANY super line in less than 65 lb. They are simply too thin. Edited by Captain 7/28/2004 4:01 PM

Posts: 1462 Location: Davenport, IA | I life tuff line xp and spiderwire stealth the best. I hated Power pro and tuff line plus. Its all preference really, but I had tuff line plus and power pro break on me on the cast (no backlash, no bad knot) and I had it happen w/ 3 different spools of tuff plus (100 lb) and 2 of power pro (65 lb and 80 lb) Stren superbraid I have used for ice fishing (8 lb) and it seems really good (although expensive) One thing I've never tried is spectron. It is the only line I have never heard anything bad about.

I like the Tuff line xp over power pro. I have heard good things about the Stren superbraid but haven't tried it yet. I would stay away from the Berkley superlines. I tried them and find they are only good in smaller # lines.

Posts: 699 Location: Hugo, MN | My vote is for Power Pro!!! When I started I used Cortland which was ok, then I moved to Tuf Line probably because it was on sale . . . Then I went to Power Pro on the recomendation of a buddy of mine. Works Great!! Backlashes are harder to untangle than with Tuff line but your hand and pants and shirt are so much drier with PP. Recently tried the Spiderwire 80# and did not find it to be all that bad. Backlashes were really easy to clear.

Posts: 437 | MrMuskie, one ultramax fan to another, where have you been able to find this stuff? I absolutely loved this line, never a breakage, casted perfectly. If you got a backlash it pulled right out because of the mono core. Are there any other such lines on the market? Oh, I wish I still had some.

Posts: 437 | THANKS A TON!! There were rumors that Berkley was going to come out with a similar line a couple years ago, so I waited patiently, but nothing. I will check it out!
