I know there are a couple mechanics on board here. Maybe some input from you guys or someone who's tried it?

I have been hearing about using this stuff "miracle cleaner" called Seafoam for cleaning of gas lines/carb system/fuel injections systems in vehicles. So far I've heard only good things about it. I'm still a touch leery about using it though as I'm no mechanic. It's supposed to remove varnish/dirt etc from gas lines, gunk/buildup and varnish from oil systems and carbon deposits from cylinders and valves etc. Supposed to restore power/economy to experienced (older) motors too. I've got a 1998 Dodge Ram Quad Cab with 5.7L and about 89K on it.

Only bad thing I've heard about it was that someone dumped it in the fuel tank and it apparently works so good that he got himself stuck a couple times from plugged fuel filters from all the crap that it removed.

Right now only looking for suggestions, I haven't made up my mind on whether to use it or not.

Anyone else have any experience with this stuff?

Scott,

I've used it for years. Every other tank in the boat (according to local Merc. mechnic only in carburated and EFI's, not suppose to use in Opti's) and I put it in once a month in the truck. Chev. Vortec V8 5.7L/350cu.in.

Back when I used to run dirt track cars we used it every week to help keep the top end of the motor clean. Works great for top end lubrication and cleaning.

Not sure about using it in 4 stroke outboards and was told it's not suppose to be used in direct inject motors, i.e. HPDI, Opti, Ficht.

Thanks Mark-
You run it just in the gas or the oil too?
Sounds like your running it in the oil as well if it's keeping top end clean.

Scott,

Just in the gas... that's how it keeps the top end clean... by going throught fuel system through the intake manifold or through the injectors into the intake or direct to the combustion chamber depending on type of motor and, over the reed valves/2 stroke or intake valves/4 stroke and into the combustion chamber.

On the race car we used to dump it straight down the carb... fog the whole neighborhood for mosquito's big time... Deb used just love it when I did that... Especially with a 383 with no muffler barking in the garage...hehe

It's not mechanic in a can but it is darn good for preventative maintenance.

A quote from one of the engineers at Merc. a few years ago... "We are doing our customers a disservice by not advising them to run Sea Foam every other tankful in their boats"...end quote.
