Location: Illinois | Maybe it is already being done and I just haven't heard. Instead of spending x amount of dollars on things like Worma that really won't have any tangible benefit to the fisheries why don't we start (or muskies inc.) a collection of money to start a fund to truly help the fisheries. The fund would be to offset the cost difference between a skin mount and a reproduction. The fund would be readily availible to anyone who catches a mounting size fish (50 inches?) In this day and age there is no reason to kill a fish and the fund could be used to save the best of the gene pool. The logistics woukld require advertising so the resort owners and taxidermists in areas that hold muskies were aware and on board. I look at the money donated to causes like Worma and think the money would be better served going to a cause described above. I have no problems with the men who run Worma but rather the usefulness of the cause. Any thoughts? Does this fund already exist? |

Location: Chicago | What is Worma? and what is it cause? I think anything that will keep the big fish in the lake is good.
What is the typical difference in cost between a skin mount and a replica?

Location: Illinois | Rob, WRMA is an organization that was founded to verify or disprove the current world record musky. I personally could care less and would like to see the money put into something that would actually give us better shot at trophy fish. I believe the difference between a skin mount and a replica is anywhere from almost even to a couple hundred dollars. Money well spent in my opinion. Say that 50 large fish are killed in Wisconsin every year. This fund would go toward keeping those fish alive to fight another day and the fisherman still gets his or her trophy. I believe the money given to WRMA could cover the difference of hundreds of fish that might otherwise get thumped. |
