Posts: 358 | Just got back after spending the weekend up north in Vilas. Bagged a very healthy 36"er off one of the rock piles in my lake. She hit a deep diving crank bait off the deep side (12') that leads to deep water (25+ feet.) I do have some observations though that I would like to share. Water temps (as measured 10' below the surface,) have warmed up approximately 7-9 degrees in the past 6 weeks. Surface temps on the lake were 72, but at a depth of 10' down, they were 64-65. The fish seem to be doing some sort of transitioning. 12 days ago, the rock pile I fished this past weekend was loaded with perch, this weekend it was loaded with Walleye, Lg. Mouth Bass, and Crappie. The weed beds that I normally fish, were just the opposite. Loaded with perch, and only a few Walleye. Weed growth seems to be catching up to the normal levels. Lastly, very very little algae bloom. In past years, at mid July the lake would be in full bloom. Attachments ---------------- 36incher.jpg (25KB - 143 downloads)

Just about time for my mid-season break, finish a few projects around the ranch, get the duck hunting stuff checked out and ready to go.. Here comes fall nip'n at our heels... Anyone think'n of looking for a darn nice used Ranger, my 690 will be available shortly, feel free to contact me.

Posts: 2091 Location: Stevens Point, WI | Fished Lake Holcombe for the first time this weekend, what a zoo with boat traffic. Managed a 40" fish on a Topraider by the Silver bridge and a 32" on a TM Tail in Cranberry. Fish were very shallow and were tight in the weeds. The bloom is really starting to get bad.

Posts: 2515 Location: Waukesha & Land O Lakes, WI | Pathetic...we didnt see anything all day saturday on Palmer/Tenderfoot....no wind, water temps on the rise, warm air temps and heavy boat traffic. What was feast during the week (my brother boated at least one fish every day from Tues-Friday), turned to famine on the weekend.

Posts: 160 Location: Carney, Mi (in da UP eh!) | Had one of those topwater dreams, 8:00pm Cranberry on the Eagle chain, about 2 cranks on a Gooch's Tallywacker she finned behind the bait and followed it to the boat making 2 swipes and missing it, finally crashing it at the boatside. It wasn't a trophy but it was thrilling....

Posts: 3242 Location: Racine, Wi | GMG, that seems to be echoed down here as well. The fish were going up until about Wed, then shut down with the front. We missed two fish in the morning on a small lake, then went trolling in the aft/evening, and had one rip, which was missed, and as we brought the bait back in, a little pike or musky came flying out of the water after it at boatside! That was pretty cool, but none in da musky sled Sunday. I did get out fishing for baitfish on Sat, and did pretty well, with a mixed bag of everything. (I have no idea what I was thinking doing that) This week WILL be better.

Posts: 1916 Location: Greenfield, WI | I had the best "year of my life" in Wisconsin, this weekend! I stayed at Crescent Lake, Oneida County, WI, with my best friend Darrel Mack. Darrel caught a 35" on Friday night at 5:20 PM and a 38" on Saturday at 7:00 PM. Saturday, I caught a 42 33/64" at 2:20 PM, a 35" at 2:40 PM, a 36" at 7:40 PM my first three legal muskie day ever, and a 38"on Sunday morning at 8:20 AM. All were caught on orange Dog House Bucktails retrieved at Mach 10 speed! All the fish were in 5' or less of water. Darrel has records back to 1989, The wind direction was "wrong", the skies were "wrong", and on Crescent Lake a clear lake! It just goes to show that the best time to go is when you can!!!!!! UNBELIEVABLE! Edited by Steve Van Lieshout 7/19/2004 9:08 AM

Location: Woodstock, IL | Fished the Manitowish Chain Friday and Saturday. All of my action was within a 45 minute window Friday morning (pics in the July contest thread) and in less than 5' of water. We didn't see another fish for the rest of the weekend. The water was beat up pretty bad from all of the pleasure boaters on Saturday. Surface temps ranged from 68 to 72 degrees.

Posts: 167 Location: IL | Fished Big Arb Friday nite for a few hours. Got a 26"Walleye on a big game twitch bait and moved 4 muskies from 8:00-8:30pm. Then went up to fish the Gile Flowage for the rest of the weekend and only managed a 36" on a topraider.

Posts: 1294 Location: Stevens Point, Wi. | Fished one of your local lakes on Sat. I can tell you what wasn't hot, everything in my box... Pounded the water from noon til 8 without seeing a single fish. Since I had been seeing an occasional crappie in the cabbage, I decided to try salvaging the day and got out the fairy wand. A small jig and plastic suspended under a bobber did the trick. 14 crappies in the livewell in the next 1 1/2 hours. I'm sure I looked rather silly netting 10-14" crappies with the big Beckman, but that's all I had to work with. The last fish ruined my nite. I was getting ready to pack it in and start the long drive home. While netting the last crappie (it was pretty dark by then) I saw a big swirl at the net. When I lifted the Beckman, in addition to a very scared crappie there was a very surprised 30" muskie laying in the bottom of the net. After letting the muskie go, I took a good look at the crappie and couldn't find a single mark on him. Figuring it was his lucky day I released him. Now for the bad part, I was foolish enough to think they might be starting to turn on, so went back to the big sticks and stayed out til after midnite. Needless to say, with the same success as before. Didn't get home til 3AM. At least I had a nice fresh fishfry Sunday to ease the pain.

| no muskies, but i saw someone who said: "muskies, northern, and smallmouth: the only fish that count." so, i guess this counts - nice bonus 18" Petenwell smallie hitting my muskie lure... Edited by lambeau 7/19/2004 8:35 PM Attachments ---------------- smallie.jpg (29KB - 137 downloads) | |||

Posts: 20281 Location: oswego, il | We put hooks in 9 fish saturday and boated 4. 4 of the 5 fish lost were dinks but the one was nice. Three of the 4 caught were 30" or less too but I got this mid-40"er just as a storm got on us, right near some kids swimming. They seen this fish and got out of the water! This fish got me, put a treble in my thumb and just as quickly ripped it right out. Was worth it. | I saw a poliroid of Troy Spilde fish caught with Doug Smith, It was unbeleivable. It's pretty tight lipped of a fish of that caliber in Wisc. 45+ lber release.
