Posts: 469 Location: Downers Grove, IL | Was up at Lac Seul last week by Ear Falls fishing pike and walleyes when I had a little run in with my suick. Tried to grab about a 30 in pike when the #*^@ thing twisted up with my finger attached. Thank god for the hook cutters and the case of OV. Good thing it wasnt a 30 lber instead. Posts: 4266 | You're lucky that it came all of the way through so you didn't have to push it through or try to back it out with the barb still intact. Soak it in alchohol so you don't get an infection. Ask me how I know. I always carry rubbing alchohol in the boat with me for just such happenings. The infection can be worse that the laceration. Hope it didn't damage anything permanently. And thanks for sharing that with us. OWEEEEE!!!!!! Beav

Location: Eau Claire,WI | That looks painful!!! I don't know what it is about pike and Suicks, the hooks just seem to find flesh. I still have nightmares about an 18" pi*#ed off pike stuck to my leg and the Suick.Luckily the hook didn't go past the barb! I hope you have a full and speedy recovery!

| I was building a bait not long ago and had a 3/0 hook go clear to the bend on my middle finger. Thinking I'm a "man" and I can handle it, I tried to pull it out, almost puked, lol. Went to the doc, he gave me a shot in the finger and when he stepped out for a minute I grabbed the hook and tried again......my finger was totally numb so it didn't hurt a bit to pull on it, still couldn't get it out! The barbs are the worst, the hook just won't move with them in place, have no idea how big fish manage to throw three of them! RM | |||

Posts: 20263 Location: oswego, il | Those smaller pike are actually moire dangerous to mess with. They like to jump straight up at you. I never grab them, ever unless it's with a boga grip and thats for a picture if my kid catches it. I grab the hooks with a big pair of pliers and shake them off. If they need more attention, then out comes the boga. My dad got hooked to a small pike this year already and I have been hooked to one briefly also.

Posts: 469 Location: Downers Grove, IL | Thanks for the concern guys. My finger is in great shape and really doesnt hurt anymore. I have a lot more respect for all fish that have a large lure in their grill. Wont make this mistake again. Whats going on this weekend Joel?
