Posts: 561 Location: Monee, Illinois | Well I fished Shabbona today, rented a boat from the bait shop since they have a 10 hp limit, I havent been there in about 10 years, back when I was a bass fisherman. So I jumped into my car, got on the water at 2:30 pm and by 4:15 I had this one in the boat 34 inches. Some bass fisherman helped me take the picture (thanks guys) since I was alone. I also had a follow at around 6pm that fish was over 40. Edited by pgaschulz 7/1/2004 10:19 PM Attachments ---------------- muskieshabbona.JPG (123KB - 90 downloads)

Location: Illinois-Indiana | Shabby has some nice fish, you picked the best time to go (during the week) weekends are a zoo out there. I've been fishing it for over 25 years and there are some real tankers in there. Great place to take the kids camping. Edited by Musky Fever 7/2/2004 7:19 AM

Posts: 561 Location: Monee, Illinois | Thanks guys, no it was not to busy there. Maybe 15 boats and most where in the no motor area catching crappie. Yeah the second fish that followed me by the dam was a pig. I do know one thing I didn't see or hear of anyone fishing for muskie. pgaschulz

| Ive fished out of shabbona alot this year, seen some but mostly around 36-38 haven't caught one out of there in a year or two I feel as though the fishing pressure is super high. Do I need a special lure one the musky haven't seen or just through smaller bass baits? maybe next time. | |||

Posts: 561 Location: Monee, Illinois | Well this fish slammed it away from the boat, the other seem interested had it turn on the lure once in the figure 8. I was using an SS Shad Custom color for Lake Webster, SS Shad is not big in Illinois yet so yes they might not have seen those lures yet. I threw a Sledge which I had hooked up on my other rod. I had a 19+ inch Largemouth follow that but both muskie where on the SS Shad. Give it a try. I told the guys in the bait shop and they said one of the guides out there named Ron just ordered like $400 worth of them. Hope that helps, pga

Posts: 20281 Location: oswego, il | Congrats on the fish. That's the closest musky lake to me but I would drive to any other one before going there. I remember the days when here was good visibility, no millfoil and the fishing was much better. Edited by ToddM 7/2/2004 11:38 AM
