Posts: 425 Location: Elkhart, IN | Yes sir it is, I caught her on the first cast of the morning off my pier. Got a picture and then released her to fight another day. Was you worried I kept her?

| nice fish, and its nobody elses business what you did with YOUR fish. | |||

| come on now... as responsible anglers it IS our business to encourage each other to catch fish properly, handle fish properly, and release fish properly. the idea that catching a fish means it's "YOUR" fish is ludicrous. do you have the right to keep it? yes. (eat up, i'm sure they taste like chicken.) does that mean that it's the right thing to do? no. but bigger than that, when people stop asking each other/encouraging each other in a setting like THIS to release fish b/c of fear that someone might bristle about it, we'll never make progress with the casual fishermen who just don't care. Rockin' SV did the right thing, and when asked if he did so, didn't seem to have an issue with explaining. what's the big deal about somebody raising an eyebrow to ask the question then? | |||

| encourage yes; asking point blank implying that suv may have kept the fish, not cool. pretty obvious since suv asked if cpr was worried where the picture was taken. another example of questioning what a person does with a legally caught fish, not encouragement. since you brought up the taste thing, maybe the next guy will have a grill in the background. | |||

| solely speaking for myself, if someone (you, SV, CPR, whoever) legally catches and keeps a fish of any size, i'll do more than just question it. i'll say what i think about it...that's kind of the point of a discussion board, isn't it? i'll say that keeping a fish is not wrong - because it was done legally. however, it is bad, and as responsible anglers we need to do both what's right and what's good. i'm not suggesting that someone who keeps a fish is a bad person, just that it's a bad thing to do. the moral high ground does not rest in the letter of the law. however, this is really distracting from the fact that Rockin SV caught a "rockin" fish - from the dock (which is even cooler) and it's still out there swimming for everyone else to take a chance at... | |||

| Here we go again! I am so sick of this! Yes, Catch and Release works. I am a big promoter. But,If we want people to try it, let's educate. If we force our views on people based on the fact that they might have kept a fish (or even taken a picture on shore), that is wrong! The fact of the matter is if someone catches a legal musky and keeps it, that is not wrong. Showing someone the affects of keeping too many legal fish would be better. I love fishing muskies. I enjoy these type of forums to discuss different ideas. I am just so tired of all of these holyer than thou musky huggers! | |||

Posts: 1137 Location: Holly, MI | MuskyTom - 6/29/2004 10:43 AM Here we go again! He He, don't forget on this board you are most likly preaching to the choir. The guy who keeps/kills/eats, whatever muskie isn't here posting, he probably doesn't even have the internet. Preach/teach to newbies and others on the water. Rember, a diplomacy can go a long way. Just my 2 cents

Posts: 425 Location: Elkhart, IN | Warden thank you for your point of view. You had the same feeling I had, that CPR implied I kept the fish because his only comment he had was that the picture was taken on shore. The fact of the matter is I usually take a few casts from my pier in the mornings before I get in the boat and go out, you just never know when you'll get lucky since I have a few times. But for that to be the only comment kind of implies something.
