Posts: 2691 Location: Pewaukee, Wisconsin | My partner picked up a new net this Spring for the tournaments ahead. He checked it out with the salesmen who sold it to him. They both looked it over and it looked ok to them. This past PMTT in Eagle River I caught a 35-inch muskie in the first hour of the tournament. Dan netted it and I reached in to unhook my fish. I removed the hooks and placed the fish in the bottom of the bag. We called the judge boat and he was on his way with a camera man close behind. As the judge boat got there I reached into our NEW & UNUSED net to grab my fish and it was gone. After a few choice words I turned the net over to inspect the bag. I found a unstiched spot along the bottom of the bag. This was a hole large enough to put my hand through. I showed it to plenty of people after the Saturday meeting and everyone agreed it was a manufacture issue. I called after work yesterday and they handled the probem very professionally. I don't fault the company too much but this will NEVER happen to me again. Don't fall into the assumption that a new net is a safe net. Check out your nets before purchasing them. I will not give out the name of the company because it could happen to any of them. Check out all stiching on your nets so this will not happen to you. This one is going to hurt for a while. How many of you check out your nets before you buy them or before a tournament? Edited by Mikes Extreme 6/29/2004 2:05 PM

Posts: 3242 Location: Racine, Wi | I've never had them swim through a hole in the net, but I have let them swim over the top of the net, while getting ready for the photo shoot. Bad day Mike. Sorry to hear about that. At least ya got slimed.

Posts: 686 Location: Tomahawk, Wisconsin | Aw Mike, my bro was telling me about about the incident, didn't know it was you, that sucks!!! It happened to another boat in the Eagle River tourny as well. I heard they lost a 40 or so tiger in the net, I guess one never takes the time to check, I will go look at my new Beckman but they are tied and some others are not. Dave Jonesi

Posts: 1185 Location: Wishin I Was Fishin' | My old bag was the thinner coated Beckman and because of where I keep the net and how one particular person who fishes with me that gets real excited...no names...not yet anyways....well when he pulls the net from the storage spot it got two ropes broke...didn't think much about it...not a very big hole right...well a few trips later...had a friend (who doesn't catch many) low 40" fish in the bag and we went to pull her out for pics and before we could grab her she slipped right through that hole....it sure didn't seem big enough....but you would be suprised. Something to remember...if you ever notice a broken rope....right after that incedent...I used a couple of split rings to tie the hole shut....worked great till I was able to get the bag replaced over the winter. Sorry to here about your bad luck Mike...must really suck when it costs you....there are so many things that can go wrong! Edited by Jomusky 6/29/2004 9:07 PM
