Your rocky areas might hold a few fish. But these areas really don't start turning on until about mid to late July. Portage and Sucker Bays should have decent weeds, as should Grand View Flats and areas around Bear Island and Steamboat Bay.

There was a drowning out there this month, actually. A boat capsized near Pelican Island. Three guys in the boat and one of them didn't make it.

| The cold spring we have had this year and lack of sun has the weed growth behind one or two weeks. They are starting to grow now with the recent warmer weather. Good advise on the weed beds, I did raise a few fish on the rocks lately. Mix up your baits with your partner throwing a bucktail and you a twitch bait or small jerk bait. Six inch Reef Hawgs are a good choice.
Start on the weed edge and move into the shallows if no contact on deep edge. Remember play the wind on Leech. Also good advise on the boat warning. If you have a small boat trailer to the area you want to fish rather than make long runs, especially on the big lake section. Get a Reel Bottom map of Leech it is the best by far for structures, GPS waypoints, and 1 foot depths.
Good luck, Murph

Any chance we can share a day in the boat this year? I am interested in shooting a clip or two on Leech, especially when topwater takes off. |
