Location: Eastern Ontario | I am switching to Shimanos. Now I know the Calcuttas are the cats miew and the 400s are prefered for muskies but here are some questions. Are the 250s big enough to cast and troll for big muskies? Do they have a clicker like the 400s? Anybody use the 700s? How are the others, Cardiff, Catala and Corsair? Anyone use the Tecota 600LC ? seems to be their only line counter suitable for muskies.
Thanks in advance for the help.

| Richard, the 250 with a good superline should be OK for casting but does not have the line out clicker. For that feature you need to move up to the 400 and above. At a suggested retail of $199 for the 400 vs. $169 for the 250 I'd suggest biting the bullet and spending the extra thirty bucks for a reel that will do it all. |

Location: Holly, MI | For me the cats meow is my Calais, just for casting however with no clicker. I did troll with it the first time I ever trolled for Muskies and had a fish on and didn't know it. When I saw the fish it was about 200-300 feet behind the boat and that was from a propwash lure. Needless to say I didn't hook up on that one. I quickly went out and bought a couple of reels with clickers.
I'm trolling with my Daiwa line counters. Good low gear ratio to pull in big baits at trolling speed to clear weeds, bullet proof and nice loud line out alarm. They will not double for casting however, they are just a trolling reel. |
