| Have managed to break off the plastic lips on 1 jake, 1 baby shallow raider, 2 stalkers this fall
Is there a way these can be replaced on these baits or are they pretty well defunct when it happens? I really thought the stalkers and the jakes would be a little more sturdy than what they proved to be. It took very little
"target" contact to knock them out, and all or them were lost on wood not rocks at temps
>50 deghrees. Oh jake was the 6" model.
are there any conversions on these with the busted lips before I strip the rings and hooks and can em? |

| Remember those wax lips you could get in the five + dime stores.....the little kool aid coke bottles.....the bubble gum cigars....anyway I wish I could help! I remember a post from last year about fixing lips + filing them but can't remember anymore....[:blackeye:] [:sun:] |

| Don't "can" your baits! You can repair them and they may work better/same/worse, but you won't know until you try them. Get a small piece of 1/8" lexan and some 5 minute epoxy.
Copy the lip pattern from an identical lure onto a piece of card board. Measure carefully! Trace the pattern onto the lexan and using a bandsaw/scroll saw/jig saw/coping saw cut out the pattern. Don't peel the plastic film off yet; instead use fine steel wool to smooth out the saw cuts on your new dive lip. The wool will make it ultra smooth.
Again using a saw/exacto knife clean up the lip slot in your bait. Insert the new lip and epoxy it in place. Use some extra epoxy if the slot has become too big.
More questions? Let me know.
Good luck,
J.P. |

| Sounds like you just had defective lips. I have a jake the lip look really strong. Other lures on the other hand, such as a crane (even though I love it) look to have a not so great lip and i'm wondering how long it will last. I would contact drifter and musky mania and maybe they can replace them. |

The lips on Jakes are replaceable as mentioned earlier, they did have a problem late last year/early this year with some of the last ones made in Wausau. I sent 4 or 5 six inchers back this spring, some only made it 3or4 casts when twitching them in gravel/rock shallows this spring. Musky Mania replaced them all. The quality issues have been addressed from what I've heard and I haven't had any further problems and I use allot of Lil'Ernies and Jakes.
The Bucher lure I believe has a molded lip which makes it next to impossible to replace, at least with my talents[:knockout:] Bucher has also been great at replacing baits that are defective but this one depending on what it does might be a keeper the way it is.
If you don't want to make your own lips as stated above check out Rollie and Helens catalog, they offer lips of many sizes/styles for sale.
Good Luck,
Mark

| Mark- I had a girl friend who had extremely flexible lip''s- geez, I really miss her. [:0] [:0] [:0] []
Firstsixfeet- If ya can''t replace em (the lips that is!) maybe you can create some new action bait''s, i.e., glider''s , etc.

| I have a straight shallow raider that I broke the lip off when I casted it into a tree. I am going to grind off what left of the lip and put the screw eye on top of the bait and maybe a weight and see what happens.[::)] |

|
| Give a Slammer crank a try.. I have never broke a lip on one of them. The new finish is a major improvement too. In the past some had cracked, this all together has been solved.
Just an idea.[;)] |
