does anybody have any experience with connecting a handheld gps unit to their fishfinder over an NMEA connection?

i've got a Garmin eTrex Legend gps, and i've been looking at the Eagle Matrix fishfinder system. this system is apprently capable of displaying data provided by the eTrex when connected by NMEA cables.

has anybody used a setup like this? buying the connection cables is cheaper than buying a gps-enabled finder, especially considering i already have a good handheld gps. but then again, what do you gain by doing this aside from increased display size by using the finders display?

thoughts???

you hit the nail right on the head the only advantage is a larger screen to view. it will only show what your etrex does. not reaaly an advantage. save and by a combo unit they are awesome
