Posts: 3242 Location: Racine, Wi | putting another locator in the front of the boat put on my battery. I only run 1 12 volt DC battery for my current TM and locator. They both run great, and I can run for a long time on a charge with constant use of the 2. If I add a locator to the front of the boat, will that put a significant drain on the battery. I would suspect not, as I would have the back locator turned off if running the front locator, but If I have 2 people in there, and want to run both, do you think I should run another battery?

Posts: 5874 | Shouldn't be a problem, Joel. As long as your battery is in good condion. Do you have room for two batteries? If you do, adding another, and running it in parallel would be the best. It would almost triple your running time. Edited by Shep 5/17/2004 4:07 PM

Posts: 3242 Location: Racine, Wi | I could add another battery if needed. I can make room if I don't have it. ![]() How would I run a parallel? I am electronically challenged (kind of). Any pointers would be much appreciated Shep. Would it matter if it is only a 12 volt set up if running it parallel? Thanks!!!!!!

Posts: 119 Location: Waterford & Boulder Junction | Joel, to parallel the 2 batteries, you need to put a jumper between the 2 positive posts and a jumper between the 2 negative posts. Your accessories can be terminated on either positive or negative terminals and still attain the benefit of parralleled batteries. Landy

Posts: 3242 Location: Racine, Wi | Thanks Landy! Sorry to ask soo many questions, but would the charger on the one battery, still charge the other, or would I have to charge the paralleled battery as well. Also, as it stands, if I run the jumper wires between the batteries, and then I attach one locator directly to one battery, the other would be run through a board on the front of the boat along with the TM. Would that be ok?

Posts: 1769 Location: Algonquin, ILL | Joel, Todays electronics barely use any power at all on my Boat I run the GPS, 2-Depth Finders, Stereo, Interior & Running Lights all off One Battery and have never had a problem, just make sure that you do proper batt Maintenance espcially recharge after each use and you will be fine. Should you Decide to add a second Battery in parallel your charger will charge both but I would suggest buying two new batteries vs adding a new one as the older Battery may not charge to the same level as the new one, another option would be to replace your current battery with a new one of larger capacity this would simplify things for you Edited by JohnMD 5/18/2004 3:30 PM
