There are several Twin Cities folks on the board. I know Mr Cady can help, but he is on his way to the southern waters of Cave Run. Anyone else care to help?

There are a number of good muskie waters in the Twin Cities. I only have fished a few of them but Waconia, and minnetonka are my favorites. On Waconia I seem to do best on the outside weedlines. There is a large weedbed that starts right at the public access and goes all the way to in front of the beach and beyond, several hundred yards. Lures try phantoms, granny's, and black and silver bucktails. Minnetonka go shallow. Inside weedlines can be great. Fast moving topwaters and spinnerbaits have produced for me. You will have to deal with major pleasure boating traffic on either lake. Don't let it get you down some of my best days have been when there are jet skiers going through the weed beds. I think the fish are used to it and it stirs put things getting the baitfish up. Q

You might want to look into joining one of the chapter's of MI in the Twin Cities. Happy is part of the Twin Cities chapter, and they meet down in Bloomington on the second Tuesday of the month. I am a member of the North Metro chapter, and we meet in Fridley on the third Tuesday of the month. This month we have our poolside demo, and during the summer we have a league night. It is a very casual league, and switch from lake to lake through out the season. You will learn alot about the lakes after the fishing is over, as most of the people who fish these night's sit around the launch, and talk about what was working that night. You can learn more about our chapter at http://www.northmetromuskies.com/ . Our meetings are open to the public, so if you want to check out both chapters please feel free to stop by. My son starts baseball on Tuesday's, and Thursday's, so this will be my last meeting until next fall, unless I show up for a league night after baseball is over.

Some of the better waters for pure strain = White Bear, Bald Eagle, Forest,
Owasso, Minnetonka, Eagle and the Mississippi River. Those Tigers are great and
have been stocked in many lakes. Some of the lakes have been stocked with both.

I live in the Anoka area and usually fish Minnetonka, Eagle, Forest, White Bear and
then I will go out to Sugar and up to MilleLacs. If I have the time -- Leech and
Vermilion are my favorite lakes.

The metro area has every type of fishing -- Thick Sloppy Weeds, GREEN water,
Clear Water, Big Weed Beds and Rocky Reefs. No need to go a long distance, the
metro has it all -- including 50" fish.

Good Luck!
Steve

Jimus,

What part of the metro are you in? I fish the northern metro quite a bit in the summer. Owasso, Bald Eagle, White Bear and Forest Lake. I've by far had my best Musky action on Forest but then again I've spent most of my time there.

Look me up if your ever looking for a boat partner, that is provided you arent' a Jeffery Dahmer or anything... hehe :-)

Esox23

Don't overlook the "other" metro lakes. Phalen, Clear, Como & Elmo all have good populations of Tigers and get waaaaay less pressure than those other lakes.

Drop me a line and I can help you out with a few spots to try.

Oh, and as for lures. Every fish in the metro has seen a crappie colored Phantom at least a billion times so throw anything else!

To answer esox23, I live right next to bryant lake and thats where I normally fish. I only have a 12' boat with a 4.5 hp so the small lakes are obviously best for me. I've caught quite a few tigers out of Bryant but 38" is the biggest. One fat 35" northern also.

I usually throw pike lures (#14 rapala, Red eyes).
I finally bought a baitcasting setup so now I'm ready for the big ones.

I usually fish by myself so it would be nice to have company to chit chat and to better our odds

And NO i'm not a Jeffery Dahmer just love the outdoors(golf & fish) fishing is free,
except all the toys.
