Posts: 228 Location: Downers Grove, IL |
OK - here's another lake that I could use some feedback on...Harris Lake in Winchester, WI. Anyone offer any feedback on the fishing quality? It's an "A2" class rated musky lake, and the dnr report says 'eyes are "abundant".

Thanks all...

Jeff
| ||

Location: Minneapolis, MN | If this is the lake NW of Boulder Junction that I'm thinking of, pick a nice windy/cloudy day. It's gin clear. Nice steep weed edges not far from the ramp.

Posts: 285 | Hi Guys, We fish the Winchester lakes Rock, North Turtle and South Turtle a couple times each year, including the Musky Classic. Best we've done is to pound the large weedbeds. We like to hit the reeds and have seen a few fish there but not a huge amount. I like the river off South Turtle, and the steep edges around the islands in North Turtle. Haven't been on Harris Lake but similar lure types might be good to try: we use lots of spinnerbaits, in order to work the outside weed edges and to pick apart the weed beds (bucktails catch too much debris) and of course I throw topwater pretty regularly. I had a few nice fish last year on red/white hawg wobblers, I would think Top Raiders would do well too. This season I am also trying rattetraps after the Cave trip, they are for real and I think I'll pick up a few bonus bass and pike in the Winchester area. Maybe they will help me avoid an embarassing 3rd skunk in a row at the Musky Classic! C ya. Papa joe

| I hit Harris lake a couple of years ago in the a.m. We concentrated on the section to the North with the smaller bays and fingers. Ended up seeing a few nice fish on jerkbaits off of the steep dropping shore lines and toward the middle of the smaller bays. Don't be afraid to cast into the open water. Good Luck. | |||

Posts: 389 Location: Presque Isle Wisconsin | Harris is an excellent smaller Muskie Lake. The boat landing is shallow and can get difficult in low water conditions. In the larger bowl look for muskies close to the obvious reeds that contain good cabbage in conjunction with them.Being able to find and accurately cast to these areas is important.There are cuts.deep water draws and points connected with this cabbage. The smaller bowl in the north has excellent drowned wood on deeper drops off the shoreline.I like to make contact with this wood and let a lure work close to it on a slower drop.The open water bite is excellent also and as Mike suggested should not be ignored on Sunny calm days.Erractic retreives will help when fishing the open water water. Working the lake at night closer to structural elements has always been good on Harris especially with baits in the Jake tradition or surface lures. Harris is a good Muskie lake with moderate pressure.
