How do these hold up and do the 5500 have a clicker on them as well....I like the idea of thumb bar casting...Any input would be great...Steve

I bought a C5 mag last year. I liked it enough to buy another one this year. They dont sell it anymore but its not because theres something wrong with it. Great reel.

I've learned that when fishing cold weather in the fall (like temps in the 20's with wind chill around 10 and EVERYTHING is icing up) Abu thumbbar models freeze up long before Abu push button models.

I bought a 5601 because I wanted the thumb bar for casting and the clicker for trolling. The 4600 didn't have the clicker and the 6600 didn't have the thumb bar. I would guess this is also true on the 5500 series. I found out how much fun (not) it was to crank in a big trolling lure at 5 mph to clear weeds or change lures with the 6.3:1 ratio of the C4's. I have switched to trolling Line counters for trolling anyway so that reason is gone. I really do like the thumb bar for casting but havn't used it in icy conditions so I cant vouch for the ice up problems. The clicker is also nice if you want to soak a sucker and leave the reel on free spool.

I picked up two C5's from Duck here on the board. So far I like them. They replaced the C5's I think ith the new smaller profile D5 which appears to be the same real but with a smaller profile.

I bought 2 a coouple years ago at a great price. I like them. Never had any problems with them. They get equal use with my Morrum. That will probably change this year, as I have 3 new Morrums.

I have a c5 6500 and its a good reel, cold weather or warm. i bought it because i too like the thumbar. in my opinion the magnetic brake is useless. i have messed with it but now i just leave set to "0". if i were you i'd buy a c3ss. it's a new real for this year and i think its only available at "non-box stores" not sure though. i saw one at the berkley booth at the nw sportshow in march. you can find them on reeds web sight!
