Location: Holly, MI | Finally looks like I'll hit the water this weekend. It has been cold. This morning it was snowing to beat the band. Nothing stuck but is supposed drop to 32 or so again tonight and per weather only 50's on sat when I'm getting out. We won't hit the water until afternoon so it will be the warmest part of the day and the lake is under 200 acres so maybe it won't be as cold as the big water.
Should I be slowing my presentations down if the water is cold?
What about a throw-back (if needed) ? I'm thinking maybe an 8 inch tiger tube or a suspending drop belly. |

Location: oswego, il | Toss glide baits. Those work for me at this time. Soak a 10-14" sucker too on a quick strike rig. |

Location: Holly, MI | How about my sucker (perch, or whatever) I'm soaking just off the other side of the boat? If I see a follow that turns away it seems like I could just as easy grab my meat rod and flip it out front as pick up a throw-back rod.
Anyone ever try this? |

| great question, lobi, I'm as concerned as you (down here near Kzoo). We're also going to have some wind over the next few days. If it's sunny, maybe the fish will head toward the shallower water in the northern side of the lake? I plan to hit the lake tomorrow night or Thursday and shine the water with my Q-beam to see what I can see. Will provide a scouting report.
Saw an In-Fisherman once where they were fishing very early season pike in Canada. The only action came on sturdy bass jigs rigged with pork. Fishing the sunny shallows. Hmmmm..... |

Storm makes a soft plastic called the Wild Eye shad, it comes in a huge musky size, but also comes in a large bass size that suspends....try that out for a throw back, they work great anytime of the year. |

Location: New Baden IL | I'll second the HandyMan on the Shallow Invader.
I put about 1/4 oz. of lead solder on the front hook to really get it to slooow down and hang in their face. There is something special about the thump of that rubber tail.

| I love the gliders and have a serious love affair with the shallow invader too. I've been watching these fish stare at them for a month now.Finally have gotten these fish to open their mouths.In the last week, walk the dog topwaters have been on fire!!!I work it semi normal til I get about mid retrieve , then make it whoosh(Weagul) and pop(Top Prey).Very physically demanding this early in the season, but maybe it's getting me in shape.These baits have produced fish of all sizes, from the low 30's to 48" or so.Several misses and a few lost fish as well.Water temps are in the mid 50's.Topwaters in April?You bet!Thanks Roger B.!!!Take the rule book and throw it out the window.Oh, yeah, these fish have been caught mid day, evening,in sun,clouds and wind.Had BERTHA come out of a 2 foot wave a few days ago to eat the "Popper".I'll see that fish in my sleep for a long time!Try it on those followers.You never know.Good luck to all this weekend.
