Location: Sheldon, IA | I'm thinking of trying this lake since this is my only hope of muskie fishing until the season opens in Iowa. I have never fished this lake nor do I know anything about. Wondering if it was worth the time to explore it(only 3 hr drive) or aren't there many muskies it. Any info on the lake and lure choice would be helpful. When would be the best time to go. Need to get out and fish soon. Thanks!

Location: Sheldon, IA | Clear Lake is about 3.5 to 4 hrs northwest of Davenport, close to Mason City on I-35. Don't know when the ice comes off but I think season is always open. |

You are right no closed season on clear lake. There seems to be a pretty good population of muskies in there although the biggest population is from 30" to 40" fish and a few bigger now and then. They usually start biting around the end of april just depending on the weather and probably is at its best may and june. As for presentations i like to throw mepps and gliders early in shallow water. Then i usually switch to trolling by the end of may i like baby depthraiders, ernies and bagleys . There is a open to public muskies inc. tourney [$35 entry]there april 24th that is a good time and a good way to learn the lake since there will be alot of muskie guys there. Tracy |
