Hey all! First post in Muskie First after reading hundreds!

I’m currently using an Olight Baton 3 Pro Max on my hat as a night fishing light, but concerned with white light spooking following fish.

I’m now looking into headlamps with red lights. Enough to see the lure coming in, not attract bugs, disturb night vision, and less likely to spook fish. I’ve come across the Olight Perun 3, which has a red light mode but is 620-625nm (slightly more orange wavelength, perceived as brighter for the same lumen rating, more perceivable to wildlife). The low output is 1 lumen and high output is 40 lumens. Since I have 4 Olight flashlights I’m drawn to this option since I like their UI and charging and have had good experiences.

Another contender is the Armytek Wizard C2 WR (Luminous SST 20 DR Emitter), which has an impressive 41 lumen (low) and 230 lumen (high) deep red 660nm output. For astronomy and wildlife 660nm is a true deep red light which is ideal!

Wondering what is your approach to light for night fishing and any experience with either of these lights?

I've fished with a friend who uses a head lamp what has both white and red lamps, when we troll for walleyes after dark we put red reflective tape on our planer boards (like on the rear of bike reflector) then switch our headlamps with the red light and we can see our boards.

Some guides will run red lights at the water line all night while others swear you need total darkness. Good luck figuring out who is correct. Personally I keep dark and most nights there is enough ambient light to see your lure. I have a couple dozen olights but I'm partial to coast headlamps. If you spook a fish or 2 boat side, turn off your light and see if it helps.

I'm in the no light group. Never even tried a light. I'd rather be in total darkness but I do know some people who swear a green light doesn't affect the fish. I won't risk it though. Don't need a 55 to spook on me.

I've got red lights in the boat lighting up the floor etc but I don't wear a headlamp when casting.
