| Has anyone tried using an Owner Beast Hook to use just this single hook on soft plastic swimbaits? It would come thru weeds and wood really well, but I"m wondering about the hook up ratio. I suppose a treble hook could be added to the single Beast Hook prior to putting the hook point up thru the bait. But then it wouldn't be snagproof.
Anybody tried it? |

Location: Walker, MN | I've had some success with a 12/0 best hook with an 8" swimbait. The past two seasons I've been throwing 8" swimbaits on an Ike's Monster Jig, this combo works well. Basically a giant swim jig. The key for me with any swim jig or Beast hook is to hold the rod totally out of position, straight up or off to the side. This way you are pre-programed to drop the rod tip (feeding the lure to the fish for a second), then reel half of the slack and hit the fish on a semi-slack line. The hooking percentage is really good when using this technique. Holding the rod 90 degrees to the line angle. This is also how I teach people to fish a topwater frog for bass, and the hookup ratio skyrockets when done properly. |

| Thanks for getting back to me. I think that is good advice. I'll check out the jigs you mentioned, too.
I've noticed when fishing for bass with swimbaits it's best to hesitate before setting the hook. Must work the same for muskies.

Location: Janesville wi | I really like the yunique baits perch. It’s only a 6 inch bait but Muskies and pike crush it. And they hold up very well caught multiple Muskies/pike on one bait with some glue work.
Hook up ratio isn’t great, they clamp down on then usually head first and it’s hard to move the bait and the hook. Really let them load up before setting the hook like a Texas rig worm for bass and you’ll hook some fish. It’s a bait I’d only use in specific situations. I have a shore spot of a local river, a cold clear water creek dumps in and at the mouth there’s weeds you can almost always pull a Muskie out of but if the water is low at all your only option is weedless bait. And you only have a few cast to catch a fish before you spook them. Either lose fish because your bait gets covered in weeds or risk missing a fish with weedless bait. It’s really not a bait I’d use in other scenarios. |
