Posts: 1936 Location: Eau Claire, WI | Got back from my first trip to Kinkaid yesterday thought I would give me .02 cents worth for those interested. Unfortunately I got hit very hard with a severe stomach virus on the ride down and literally slept on the back deck of the boat for two days, I don't think I made more than 50-60 casts the whole trip. None the less it was nice to get on the water for the first time this season. Very nice lake, fairly easy to fish, easy to navigate (you don't need a $20k+ boat to be safe or catch fish). Lake access is honestly the best I've every seen. Huge paved ramp and parking lot, clean facilities. It is a very pretty place to fish, other than the marina all 2,200 acres is surrounded by national forest. It was sure nice to see undeveloped shorline and enjoy natures beauty... This fishing was fair due to weather conditions, my partner boated a fish on the first night and saw several others over the next day and half. Very nice length to girth ratio for muskies on this body of water. Talked with Chad Cain he confirmed a slower than normal bite but like we all know...that can change in very short order as weather conditions change. Super 8 motel in Murphysboro was clean and had electricity for charging the boat. $55 per night double occupancy. 17th Street bar and grill is a must for a place to eat. Award winning bar-b-que place. Unfortunately I was too sick to try the food but my partner said it was delicious. Priced for the average working person.... Jeans, t-shirt and a healthy appitite is all you need. All in all I would make the trip again, good fish, pretty location, reasonable accomodations... and the lakes are still froze here at home so it was a great spring get-a-way. If your interested in a guided trip check with Chad Cain at www.chadcain.com Good luck, Mark Hintz www.muskyadventures.com Eau Claire, WI

Posts: 20281 Location: oswego, il | I haven't fished it in 19 years but it sure is a beautiful lake to be on. I fished it when I was in college but that was before the muskies were in there. There can be alot of pleasureboating on the main lake but there is always places to get away from that. I have to get back down there again. I wish they stocked cedar and little grassy with muskies too.

Location: Woodstock, IL | Kinkaid is a beautiful lake and it is hard to believe you're in Illinois while fishing it. My only complaint is that it is a HORRIBLY boring drive to get down there. When you're at 17th Street be sure to try an Irish Car Bomb. 1/2 glass of Guinness with a shot glass filled with Irish Whiskey and Irish Cream dropped into it. Chad Cain introduced me to those and I haven't recovered yet. I now keep the ingredients close at hand. Edited by dpratt 4/6/2004 9:23 AM
